Kaali - Ek Agnipariksha is an Indian drama series, which premièred on STAR Plus on September 13, 2010,^[1] concluding in March 2011.^[2] The series tackled sexual harassment and bore some resemblance to the case of Ruchika Girhotra, though the producers denied any connection to a specific case.^[3] The show was launched in association with the change in programming on STAR Plus,^[4] as per the channel's tagline, "Rishta Wahi, Soch Nayi" (old relationship, new thinking).^[5]

Plot[edit]

Set in Ghaziabad, Kaali- Ek Agnipariksha centres around Rachana Mehta (Swati Kapoor), a sixteen-year-old budding badminton player. During a tournament, she meets Keshav Thakral (Ashutosh Rana), a shrewd, sinister and powerful man - the "Bahubali" of Ghaziabad. He begins to pay undue attention to Rachana and eventually, under the excuse of an invitation to dinner molests her, telling Rachana to give in, for future benefits. Her best friend and cousin Anu (Neha Sharma) is the sole witness and saves her from the situation.^[6]

With the support of her family, father Vijender (Arif Zakaria) and brother Rahul, Rachana fights her case against Thakral and though is successful to a degree, Thakral uses his association with the Chief Minister allows him to escape punishment. The trial unearths details about Thakral's illegal activities and this allows the support for Rachana to grow.

Old Plot[edit]

The tale of Mehta family who are simple and middle class with middle class values and dreams composed of Veerender Mehta and his two children 16 year old Rachna and 11 year old Rahul . Rachana is a girl with big dreams who is sure to make a mark in Badminton one day. Rachana's cousin, Anu is her best friend. Rachana is all through encouraged in her pursuit of playing Badminton by her family. And it's during this pursuit that the menacing bahubali of her town- Thakral, lays his eyes on her. It is from here on the journey of Rachana who decides to fight back against the big and mighty Thakral. Anu stands by Rachana and they remain deeply connected through the terror and trauma that Thakral unleashes on Rachana and her family. The story is the tale of rachana who belongs to a small, peaceful and happy family and what happens to her and her family when disaster strikes in the form of a monster of a man called Thakral the Bahubali of Ghaziabad
