USA Today Veronica Mars (CW, 9 ET/PT) wraps up the first of its mini-mysteries with a solid episode that proves the wisdom of splitting the season into manageable story arcs. The serial rapist story was darker than some fans seem to like, but it stayed true to the moody spirit of this series and its troubled heroine, both of which have always had dark undertones. Tonight, we get a satisfying solution to the crime along with the launch of a new mystery. And yes, as you've heard, somebody dies — but don't let anybody tell you who.

Digital Spy According to live plus same day DVR data from Nielsen Media Research, the teen mystery drama achieved series highs among adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 in its most recent outing on Tuesday, November 28. Among 18-34s, the show achieved a 5% audience share; among 18-49s, a 4% share. The episode also rated as the second most-watched in the show's history, averaging 3.44m viewers.

A few episodes lag, including Lord of Pi's which features a random guest-appearance by Patty Hearst as a missing member of the Hearst College Board of Trustees. I guess they figured the casting stunt was appropriate"”the college's name is Hearst, her name is Hearst. Who knows.
In contrast, season three also features probably the best guest-casting decision the show ever made"”Paul Rudd as an alcoholic has-been musician in the episode Debasement Tapes.
No one fades into the background on this show; even the recurring guest stars are superb–particularly Ryan Hansen as the narcissistic male-bimbo Dick Casablancas, who gets a beefed up role this season. Hansen was originally only cast to say one line in the pilot episode, but parlayed his winning comedic charms into a full-time gig.
