Frederic Lister Burk Frederic Lister Burk (1 September 1862 - 12 June 1924) was an internationally known educator and served as president of the State Teachers College of San Francisco for 25 years.

Biography[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Frederic was born on September 1st, 1862 in Blenheim, Canada to Erastus and Matilda (Turner) Burk. The Burk family moved from Canada to El Dorado County, California in 1869[1].

Education[edit]

He attended Sacramento High School and received his B. L. degree in 1883 from the University of California. He obtained his M.A. degree in 1892 from Stanford and completed his Ph.D. six years later at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts[2]. Frederic supported himself through graduate school by teaching at various public and private schools[3].
