Arctic (Smallville)[edit]
"Arctic" is the twentieth and final episode of the seventh season of The CW's Superhero television series Smallville, and the 152nd episode overall. It was written by Don Whitehead and Holly Henderson, and directed by Todd Slavkin.
The episode's plot includes Kara telling Lex how to defeat the traveler, Clark and Chloe finding out that Kara is being impersonated by Brainiac, Lana wakes from her comatose state and leaves Clark a video, Jimmy proposes to Chloe and Clark and Lex face off in the The Fortress. "Arctic" received mixed reception complimenting the use of Kara and Brainiac, however Lex and Clark's showdown at the end of the episode was met with mixed reviews with criticism aimed at the anti-climactic ending.

Plot[edit]
Edward Teague is on a private jet when Kara Kent disguised as a flight attendant interrogates him about Veritas. He tells her to talk to Lex Luthor. Kara flies out of the plane, destroying the tail and causing it to crash.
Lex is in his Daily Planet office when he is informed that two of his teams have gone missing in the Arctic. Jimmy Olsen enters and Lex blackmails him into keeping Lois Lane from asking questions about Lex and his work.
Lois goes to Clark Kent's house and explains that since Chloe Sullivan got fired from her job that a spot has opened up for Clark. Clark passes on the offer saying he'd never work for Lex causing Lois to ask why they were friends in the first place. Clark answers with sometimes people don't turn out the way you think they will. Chloe arrives and tells Clark that Teague has died in a plane crash.
Clark and Chloe go to the Isis Foundation where she hacks into the plane's black box and got audio from before the crash, however the audio is garbled so Clark uses his super hearing and finds out that Kara is behind the plane crash and that she's going for Lex.
Kara arrives at the Luthor Mansion and locates the orb in his safe, however she is unable to take it as it has protection preventing anyone who isn't human from taking it. Clark finds Kara and asks about the plane crash. Kara says that she was just protecting Clark and killed Teague for going after Clark. He believes that her strange behavior is caused by her coming into contact with red kryptonite. Kara goes to fly away and when Clark tries to hold her back, she kicks him and departs.
Jimmy meets Lois at the Ace of Clubs and convinces her that Lex isn't up to anything. She is skeptical so Jimmy shows her his photos of Lex's oil drill in the Arctic and says that the photos were from the photo lab.
Lex finds Kara in his library and she tells him that to find The Traveler he must take the orb himself to the Arctic. She then tells Lex that she's a Kryptonian and demonstrates by shooting fire out of her eyes and he realizes that she was the one who saved him at Reeves Dam. Before Kara goes, Lex asks who The Traveler is. Kara suggests that he already knows who it is.
Chloe finds Clark at home with kryptonite. He tells her that to stop Kara he must use the kryptonite, Chloe points out that kryptonite hurts him and recommends to do it herself.
Jimmy arrives at the Luthor Mansion just as Lex is leaving for the Arctic, to tell him that he did what Lex wanted and that they're even now. Lex then asks him to continue spying on Lois to which he objects, promising to not tell anyone about Lex's secrets and is pleased with himself when Lex seems to agree.
Chloe lures Kara to her apartment, but is shocked when the kryptonite doesn't work. Kara realizes that Chloe has deceived her and reveals herself to be Brainiac. Now as Braniac , he tries to pierce Chloe's head with his finger tendrils. however, Chloe's power enables her to resist him and by the time she falls to the ground, Braniac is considerably weakened and unable to continue his attack. Lex boards his jet and decides to not wait for Kara, being uncertain if he can trust her.
Clark goes to see Chloe in the hospital. He sits by her side and apologizes . Suddenly her eyes open; they are clouded over, and Clark realizes that she has been attacked by Brainiac. Brainiac is out seeking high voltage lines to recharge himself when Clark arrives and apprehends him. Clark realizes that the real Kara never came back from Krypton. When Clark asks if Brainiac killed her, Brainiac says it is much worse than that. In a rage, Clark kills him
Kara is then seen trapped in the Phantom Zone, with the Kryptonian spinning through space in one of the Phantom 'prison discs'.
Clark goes to see Lana Lang but is shocked when he finds her room in the hospital empty. The nurse explains that she made a miraculous recovery and checked out and left Clark a video, in which Lana explains that she feels that she and Clark are not meant to be together and that the world needs him more than she does. Lois arrives as the video ends and comforts a crying Clark.
Jimmy brings Chloe back from the hospital and proposes to her after realizing how much she meant to him. Before she can answer, armed agents from the Department of Domestic Security storm into the talon and place Chloe under arrest due to Jimmy not co-operating with Lex. As he tries to protest, the agents punch Jimmy to the ground. Jimmy goes to Clark and tells him that Chloe has been arrested and that Lex is in the Arctic.
Lex is in the Fortress of Solitude and is about to place the orb into the glowing console. Clark makes it to the fortress where Lex is waiting. They stare each other down. Lex figures out that Clark is The Traveler and says that he must be stopped from plotting mankind's demise. Clark tries to reason with him saying that he has no right to control his life but Lex believes it was his birthright to save mankind. Lex places the orb into the console where it glows and precipitates the breaking apart of the Fortress. Clark falls to the ground, and Lex kneels down and tells him that he loved him like a brother. The Fortress collapses around them.
