Nicole Tung is an American citizen born and raised in Hong Kong. Tung graduated from New York University in 2009 after studding journalism and history and freelances for many internarial publications, including NGO’s primarily covering the Middle East, and Africa and Asia. 13 Tung is still a photojournalist.

Career

Tung started her career right out of college in 2009. When she freelanced for many international publication publicist and NGO’s primarily covering the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. After covering conflicts in Libya and Syria extensively forcing on plight of civilians. 1 Tung spent 2014 documenting the lives of Native American “war veterans in the U.S, as well as former child soldiers in the DR Congo, and the protests in Hong Kong. Tung is currently exploring the rising violence against woman in Turkey. And has turned her focus on Iraq, documenting the Yazidi population and the offensive for Mosul. Her work often explores those most affected by conflict, either directly or indirectly.

The country that Tung has been to are very dangerous. At one point her friend Jim Foley was taken captive in Benghazi, Libyan. When they were covering the Libyan uprising. James and Tung figured working as a pair was safer than working alone. Traveling in and out of Syria half a dozen times until James Foley was captured by Militants on Thanksgiving Day in 2012. [15]

Awards

Tung has received multiple awards for her work from the international Photo Awards, Px3 and was named PD’s 30 under 30 Emerging Photographers (2013).[11] Her image on Native American war veterans was awarded by the Society of Professional Journalistic for best online reporting, and the image and voices of Hope award of Appreciation (2015). For her work on migration crisis in 2015 Tung received the Human Rights Press Award in Hong Kong. Tung has also been in various exhibitions most recently at the Annenberg Space for Photography in L.A., the freilicnt museum in Germany. The Trope museum in Amsterdam. Nicole served on the board of the Frontline Freelance Register (2015). She is based in Istanbul, Turkey. [6]
