Proposal Key Elements[edit]

I have decided to move forward with the creation of a new article titled "Human Trafficking in Houston". What motivates me to do this is the addition of new perspectives to a global issue on Wikipedia. Creating an article about how this issue is seen or portrayed in Houston brings a municipal view on solutions implemented and what trafficking can look like on a local scale. I also wanted to expand on this topic from the parent article, "Human Trafficking in Texas", since Houston has been known as a major hub for human trafficking for many years.

This is what my outline will look like, and what content I will cover:

  • Lead
  • Statistics
    • Will include both qualitative and quantitative data about why Houston witnesses high amounts of trafficking activity, and how the city ranks in comparison to others.
  • Types of Trafficking
    • Divided into labor and sex trafficking, the two most prominent types of trafficking found in Houston. I will also share what hotspots look like/or can be found in the Houston area, and examples of the various forms labor and sex trafficking take on.
  • Causes
    • Will be divided into two sections, location and population factors. These two components contribute to Houston's major human trafficking issue. I will specify the existence of ports, border proximity, interstate highways, homelessness, and diversity, and how they all play a part in human trafficking.
  • Countermeasures
    • I will divide this section into legislation and organizations, in order to reflect the efforts being made by both the government and community, and how it has impacted the trafficking rate.

I will plan to add links to “Human Trafficking” when referring to the types of human trafficking found and why some of the causes mentioned contribute to human trafficking. I will also link the “Human Trafficking in Texas” and “Human Trafficking in the United States” article when discussing the policies applied to Houston since most derive from state/national regulations. I will also add my article’s link to the previous articles mentioned because they have received traffic, especially the article about Human Trafficking since there have been edits made this year.
