Kaliyan (lit.'Buds') is a collection of short stories in Urdu by Ismat Chughtai first published in 1941.

Background[edit]

Chotein was first published in 1942.[1] This was Chughtai's second collection of original short stories after Kaliyan (1941).

Themes[edit]

In Gainda, Chughtai depicts the suffering of child brides through the story of Gainda who is married as a child and becomes a widow within a year of marriage.[2]
