Roman Empire in 50 BC. Lucius Aemilius Lepidus Paullus was consul of the Roman Republic in 50 BC together with Gaius Claudius Marcellus Minor. Aproximately the date that Germanic tribes settled in the Rhine delta, somewhere between 57 BC (conquest of Gaul by Julius Caesar) and 38 BC (some Chatti are forced to live under Roman rule in the Rhine delta). Leiden is part of the Rhine delta.
