We should write articles about all victims of Palestinian terror[edit]

We should write articles about all victims of Palestinian terror. Just like the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office make memorial pages, so should we. We can write more on those pages than they do. We should commence with writing pages about those who are killed as of now, R"L. Then, perhaps, we could also work backwards to create pages about victims of past terror attacks. Examples of articles which we should create are Shalhevet Pass, written by Crzrussian, and Ayala Abukasis, written by me. Another example is Eliyahu Asheri. There are no articles written about most of the victims of the April 17 suicide attack on the Tel Aviv shoarma/falafel place. Nor about Pavel Slutzker and Hanan Barak, the soldiers killed on Sunday. Nor about Marwan Abed Shweika, who was killed on Road 443 north of Jerusalem on June 11.

Some guidelines[edit]

  • Added names for recovery such as Techiya or Chaya should not be written in the article name, but should be included in the beginning of the article (see the above articles). Meaning that while the articles are called Shalhevet Pass and Ayala Abukasis, they begin with Shalhevet Tehiya Pass and Ayala Chaya Abukasis.
  • Generally speaking, photos from the MFA website can be used. I asked the MFA about this regarding the photo of Ayala Chaya, and they replied that while the MFA does not own the copyrights on the photo, it is unclear who does. However, we can be quite sure that the copyright owners (I guess the parents or other family of victims) will not oppose this use of the photos, which are also used on numerous other websites without any sort of copyright information. I cannot imagine anyone objecting to this, even though I am aware that from a purely legal point of view, this may not be so clear. Feel free to discuss below.
  • Provide some external links to articles such as from newspapers (Haaretz, Ynetnews) about the attack in which the victim died, and the MFA and PMO memorial sites for that person.
  • Gather as much information as possible. All of the information I gathered about the circumstances under which Ayala Chaya died was gathered from about 10 different sites.
  • As usual, do not simply copy texts from anyone including the MFA or PMO, but rewrite it in your own words.

Place Any Discussions, Questions, Remarks Here[edit]

  • Absolutely not! This was done for 9/11 victims and eventually they had to foundq a separate Wiki just to keep those memorials, and transwiki'd the whole thing. AfD precedents abound. We're only keep articles about notable victims: Mychal Judge comes to mind. IMO Shalhevet Pass was hugely notable for the worldwide outrage/coverage b/c of her age and circumstances of death (snipered in her stroller). The vast majority of other palestinian terrorism victims are not similarly notable. Suggest include one-liners into List of Pal. attacks or some such, I know we have one. - CrazyRussian talk/email 16:37, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
    • I read about the Wiki for the 9/11 victims, though I never read it myself. I doubt whether we would reach such a high number. Besides, most terror victims nowadays get so much attention - because of the reduction in the total number of victims - that in many cases, a page is justified. I'm thinking about Tali Hatuel, for example (does that page exist? we'll see). --Daniel575 16:44, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
      • I see it does exist, and I also see the continuous debate of User:Jayg who insists on calling the terrorists 'militants' instead of 'terrorists'. A small-sized Wikiproject to merely keep track of such things would also be good. I only spread this page to 3 people yet, by the way, just to see some opinions. Hello Daniel, I am sorry but this is not really a concentration of my activities here. In the distant past I have written one article on a massacre in which also a Dutch Israeli family died, originally for nl.wikipedia. I created one article on George Khoury, an Arab-Israeli terrorism victim. For the Dutch Wikipedia I have also written one article on Jonatan Vermeulen, a non-Jewish Dutch Israeli, who died in an act of terrorism. These were all stories that particularly caught my attention for some reason. Of course this may happen again sometime, yet at present I do not have any plans in this area. gidonb 17:31, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Categories with articles about casualties[edit]

The above is not quite a "new" idea, there have been quite a few articles written in the past by various editors. At this time, please take a look at past articles and efforts collected in:
