9-minute video explaining what open access is about

Abstract

[edit]
1-min video about the Open Access Signalling project
Open science goes way beyond Open access. Wikimedia workflows are an interesting model system for open science.

Wikimedia projects are amongst the major drivers of traffic to scholarly references (e.g. Wikipedia is the 8th largest referrer of CrossRef DOIs), yet many of the sources cited in Wikipedia articles are neither free to read nor free to reuse. WikiProject Open Access has developed a set of tools that allow to import suitably licensed articles into Wikisource, the corresponding images and media into Wikimedia Commons, and to signal the availability of these Open Access materials when they are cited on Wikipedia.

In this session, a brief overview of the activities of WikiProject Open Access will be given, followed by a demonstration of the import tools and the reuse of the imported materials in Wikimedia contexts.
