Formation
[edit]- 141 Fd Regt (KARGIL) was raised at Talbehat on 01 Jul 1979 under the aegis of HQ 59 Arty Bde with IFG as its main eqpt. Lt Col (Later Lt Gen) Vinay Shankar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) was the first CO of the unit. Since raising, the unit has participated in various ops to incl Op RHINO, Op RAKSHAK, Op VIJAY, Op PARAKRAM, Op FALCON, Op MEGHDOOT and Op SNOW LEOPARD. The unit was actively Involved in Op VIAY (1999) where the guns of the unit fired over 44,000 rds within a short span of 100 days. In this op, Capt PV Vikram, SM (Posthumous) & DMT Jogal Ramesh made the supreme sacrifice and laid down their life for the nation. For the devastating fire power display & exemplary professionalism, the unit was bestowed upon with the COAS Unit Citation & Honour Title ‘KARGIL’.
- 141 Fd Regt (KARGIL) holds the unique distinction in SW Comd Arty for winning four consecutives ‘Championship Banners’, three consecutives ‘Tech & Professional Trophies’, five consecutives ‘Sports Trophies’ of the fmn& three consecutive ‘Outstanding’ gradings in Annual Practice Camps. For the exemplary all rd performances displayed by the unit, it was awarded with the ‘GOC-in-C, SWC Unit Appreciation’ on the occasion of Army Day 2019.
- The unit was inducted at HAA, Tangtse under 3 Inf Div in Aug 2020 and was in direct sp of 81 Inf Bde dply in Sub Sect North (SSN). As part of “Op SNOW LEOPARD” unit was dply at DBO (16600 ft) & Depsang La (17400 ft) with stg loc at Chongtash (15300 ft) and rear loc at Tangtse (14200 ft). The unit was resp for co-ord of Arty aspects of SSN and had est sect FDC at Depsang La. The unit was also manning the Jai and Durga OPs in the SSN. In addn, unit provided three Offr OPs and two JCO OPs for “Op MEGHDOOT”.
- Presently the unit is inducted into 29 Inf Div AoR wef 20 Sep 2022. Immediately after induction the regt became champion in 29 Inf Div Inter Bn Football Championship. The regt was also awarded ‘Outstanding’ grading in annual prac camp for consecutive two trg yrs 2022-23 & 2023-24.

[edit]- The unit participated in Op SNOW LEOPARD under 3 Arty Bde/3 Inf Div from 15 Aug 2020 to 19 Sep 2022.
- Capt PV Vikram was awarded SM gallantry (Posthumous) on 15 Aug 1999 for acts of courage while combating enemy intruders in Kaksar Sub Sector & made the supreme sacrifice for the nation during operation VIJAY.
- Major Rajib Ghose was awarded Sena Medal gallantry on 26 Jan 1999 while serving with 666 R&O Sqn. He successfully executed a multitasking mission of air reconnaissance and air observation shoot during deployment in the operation MEGHDOOT.
- Naik (Operator Radio) Vankar Chandu Lal was awarded Sena Medal Gallantry on 26 Jan 1998 for his heroic deed against militants in the Kashmir Valley in Doda District (J&K) while serving with 26 Rastriya Rifle Battalion.
