  • Description: Contributor Ash Moore posted this 1962 aerial image from his dad's HMAS MELBOURNE albums on the World Naval Ships Forums website, seeking some identifications of the carriers in dock. We decided that lower left in the stores basin is indeed MELBOURNE with her stern awnings rigged. She is one of the large congregation of ships gathering for the SEATO Exercise SEA DEVIL. Near her on the outer dock is the larger HMS VICTORIOUS with her V deck letter. It's the RN carrier upper right that represented a problem. The consensus that emerged on the WNSF, where they really know their stuff, is that it is the commando carrier HMS BULWARK on her 1961-62 Far East commission.
