The Calcarisporiella is a monotypic genus of fungi in the division Calcarisporiellomycota and order of Calcarisporiellales and in the family of Calcarisporiellaceae.[1] The genus only contains the species, Calcarisporiella thermophila (H.C. Evans) de Hoog (1974).
Hoog, G.S. de. 1974. The genera Blastobotrys, Sporothrix, Calcarisporium and Calcarisporiella gen. nov. Studies in Mycology. 7:1-84
Calcarisporiella thermophila has a basionym of Calcarisporium thermophile Evans, Trans. Brit. Mycol. Soc. 57:247. 1971[2]
The growth temperature range of c. thermophilia is 25-40 °C. It was originally thought to be an anamorphic member of the Pezizomycotina (Evans 1971 and de Hoog 1974), but phylogenetic analysis of rDNA found that it was separate from the Endogonales and Mucorales clades.[3]
The fungus has been found on coal spoil tips in Staffordshire, England. It can be described as a thermotolerant.[2]
