Busha Jalleta Taa[1] (born January 28, 1963) is an Ethiopian sociologist and Associate Professor at the University of Gondar. He is widely recognized for his contributions to the field of sociology, particularly in the areas of community-based rehabilitation and the inclusion of people with disabilities. Busha Taa has dedicated his career to improving the lives of marginalized communities. His work has been instrumental in developing inclusive policies and practices that ensure equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of their physical or mental abilities.
Early life and Education[edit]
Busha was born around the city of Nekemte in the district called Sibu - Gutto. He pursued his college education at Addis Ababa University in political science and international relations. After migrating to Canada, he joined York University and obtained his bachelor's degree in poitical science. There after, he went to the University of Western Ontario in London. After obtaining his Master's degree in political sociology, he joined the University of Toronto for his PhD in sociology.
Academic career[edit]
He first taught at Brock University at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology[2] from 2004 - 2005. After that, he joined the University of Guelph to teach sociology and criminology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology[3]. Meanwhile, he was also teaching at Wilfrid Laurier University from 2006 - 2008. Later, he joined Toronto Metropolitan University and was a member of the Department of Sociology[4]. He also taught at the University of Toronto both at St. George Campus and Scarborough Campus at the Department of Sociology.[5][6][7] There after, he moved to Ethiopia to teach at the University of Gondar where he is currently an Associate Professor. Even though he is currently serving the University of Gondar, he still has taught sociology courses at Jimma University and Wollega University.
Research and Community Service[edit]
Dr. Busha Taa has an extensive background in research, primarily focusing on areas such as social justice, criminal behavior, and the impact of cultural dynamics on societal structures. Throughout his career, he has conducted numerous studies that explore the intricacies of social interactions and the complexities of criminal activities within different cultural contexts. Dr. Taa has also delved into the role of cultural norms and values in shaping societal behaviors and attitudes towards crime. His research has shown how cultural backgrounds can influence perceptions of justice and the effectiveness of various criminological interventions.

President of the Ethiopian Community in the GTA, Canada, (1999-2009)[edit]
Dr. Busha Taa has been actively involved in various community service initiatives in both Canada and Ethiopia, leveraging his expertise in sociology and criminology to make meaningful contributions to society.
Duties: Serving the community as chief executive officer, negotiating with funders on behalf of the community, supervising 30 employees, initiating and developing community programs, administering expenditures, initiating Youth development, and chairing the meetings of the Board of Directors.
Duties: Participant in HIV/AIDS research activities, raising funds to assist AIDS patients in Ethiopia, negotiating with CIDA support East African AIDS patients, and presenting the impacts of HIV/AIDS in a public forum.
