Definition[edit]

Website Advertising is online advertising with various products and services on a single web domain. The purpose is to provide advertisers global brand awareness to their target viewers. Some advertisers use different online structures to advertise their services and products, such as blogs, eCommerce, discussion boards, and affiliate marketing sites. There are some marketing sites that make profits from clicks on the ad banners which are posted on the site.

History[edit]

Digital marketing started in the mid – 1990's around the time of the dot-com bubble when the web became commercialized. The purpose is to use the web as a medium to target desired audiences. Website marketers provide context to specified segments on the internet by placing ads on websites that exemplify a specific segment to the target online user [1]. It has been calculated that in 1999 about two billion dollars worldwide was spent on online advisement and is projected to be over 20 billion dollars after 2010 [2].

Search Engine Marketing[edit]

Search engine marketing is part of a system that attracts online users to web pages through observed keyword characteristics. Marketers generally apply keywords that are typically typed in search engines. Keywords that are searched more in search engines are considered popular [3]. Online classified websites use categorized searches to attract certain demographics to affiliate links that provide advertised services and products. Currently, the largest classified sites are Craigslist, eBay, and Amazon which use their online models to attract online users to their site using numerous categories such as: jobs, services, music, software and electronics.

Affiliate Marketing[edit]

Affiliate marketing is online marketing which use web pages as a platform to increase brand awareness for products and services. Affiliate marketing depend on search engine optimization to get recognition in search engine sites. The way that affiliate marketers make profit is from online users clicking on banner ads that are added on their site that promote products and services. Affiliate marketers also partner with online retail sites such as Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist, and they make money through commission from sales that happen after the purchaser clicks the banner ads on the affiliate site [4]. Affiliate marketers also look at keywords that are consistently searched on search engine sites like Yahoo and Google.

[edit]

Advertising sites use banner advertisement, also known as banner ads, to bring in revenue to their website. Banner ads are rectangular shaped images that are typically located at the top of a web page. These Banner Ads are incorporated into affiliate websites to accumulate income from clicks, as well, as awareness of products and services that are enlisted in the banner ad [5]. Banner ads work as a function for clicks to visit the advertiser’s site and gain impressions based on the amount of traffic visiting the site [6].

Pay-per-Click[edit]

Pay per clicks are income generated clicks from advertisements on web pages that include those from paid search, and from paid online display campaigns [7]. The total clicks and the proportion of sponsored clicks after a keyword search is reflected by keywords that are often searched [3]. Corporate advertisers bid a certain dollar amount they calculate is valid for an ad click. The price may vary depending on the amount of a keyword search related to the banner ad [8].

Click-stream[edit]

Clicks are the representation of how many online users have visited a web page based on the clicks on a provided banner ad. Online users that are highly involved in making purchases online are generally more likely to indulge in sponsored clicks from banner ads then those whom are online for the purpose of just browsing. For this reason website marketers generally target online consumers by executing their search engine optimization on more popular keywords, to attain more viewership to direct to sponsoring ads [3]. YouTube is an example of a site that uses more commercial ads on videos with more views.
