Voodoo Village is an electronic dance festival located in Grimbergen, 15km from Brussels. In just a few years, they have grown exponentially, both in quality and quantity. You'll hear a diverse mix of electronic music genres: from melodic to underground techno and house to disco. [1]

The festival always takes place during the second weekend of September and can thereby be seen as one of the closers of the Belgian festival season.

History[edit]

What started in 2015 as a few open-air gigs in Dilbeek, grew into a one-day festival on a meadow in the following year. In 2017, the organizers took a different approach and they moved the festival to the idyllic setting of the castle of Humbeek, Grimbergen. [2]

In 2022, the festival was spread over two days for the first time and 25000 festival-goers were in attendance. With the growth of the festival also came a lot more artistic performances and experiences, like The Oracle. [3]

Location[edit]

Every year, the festival takes place near the castle of Humbeek, Grimbergen in Belgium. The location, with both open fields and woods, is perfect for the festival which brings together some of the best electronic music acts and encourages attendees to unite their souls and have a great time.

Grimbergen is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Belgium, boasting an array of stunning sights and natural beauty that will leave you in awe. From historic landmarks to breath-taking landscapes, this charming town has something for everyone.

Address: Warandestraat 100 - 1851 Humbeek – BELGIUM. [4]

Stages[edit]

In 2022 Voodoo Village consisted of 6 stages, of which almost every stage is covered:

  • The Yard is the name of Voodoo Village's main stage. It is the fully covered stage next to the castle and the place to be for lovers of melodic techno and house.
  • The Observatory is the place to go for mix of house, disco and everything around it.
  • The Forest is undoubtedly the most imaginative stage. The tall trees, the beautiful stage and the matching artists make this stage a top experience every time - especially when it starts to get dark and the lights come out even more. Here you can expect mostly melodic techno.
  • Fans of the better techno work may resort to The Shelter, whose design is in the hands of the now internationally renowned scenographer René van Dijk.
  • The glass house: After serving haute cuisine during the day, this greenhouse brings an evening of sultry beats.
  • The mirror house: Who says a disco ball has to be round? New this year is this all-mirror stage where you can go all weekend for the sunniest disco. Do you enjoy exploring unknown talent? Then this stage is for you, you will find a range of local, emerging artists both days. [5]

Experiences[edit]

At Voodoo Village, experience and artistic expression are at least as important as the music:

  • The Voodoo Market is a place where you can immerse yourself in a beautiful world of unique objects, fabrics, and artisanal crafts, all infused with the distinctive Voodoo atmosphere. [4]
  • The Oracle stage is an opportunity for attendees to explore their inner selves and discover new understandings. It offers various activities and workshops that cater to an individual's emotional, cognitive, social, and physical well-being, All with the goal of promoting a sense of unity and connection. [4]

Experience a culinary journey at Voodoo Village:

  • To fill the stomachs, there is a diverse selection of dining options ranging from global street food trucks, most of which also offer a vegetarian option, to gourmet cuisine at the Voodoo Village restaurant. [4]

Sustainability & local support[edit]

  • Each year they try to give something back to the festival site. Last year they planted new trees on the castle grounds, on a part of the terrain not accessible to the public. [6]
  • For the festival itself, they are working with Ecofest for waste disposal and are using reusable cups and straws to avoid waste since 2017. [6]
  • There are also some alternative transport options. Boats and buses are used to keep the CO² emission as low as possible. There are four boats between Tour & Taxis and the festival. The buses leave from several cities in Belgium.  [7] [2]
  • The festival also supports local organisations and initiatives, such as the local football club, youth movements and a care farm. [8]
