Bernard Baskin (1920–January 18, 2023)[1] was an American-Canadian rabbi, author, and benefactor. From 1949 to 1989 he led Temple Anshe Sholom in Hamilton, Ontario, and was rabbi emeritus until his death.[1]

Early life[edit]

Bernard Baskin was born in New Jersey to parents ---. He spent his childhood in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York,[2] and moved to Hamilton in 1949.[1]

His younger brother was American sculptor Leonard Baskin,[3] and he was a first cousin of American dancer Sophie Maslow.

First rabbinical posting was in Denver, Colorado, and later Louisiana.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Met his wife, Marjorie, in Lousiana.[1] Became Canadian citizen in 1967.[1]
