The Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition Model] [SAMR model ][edit]

Now it’s the digital Era, and hence technology has got a tremendous use in every aspects of life especially in teaching and learning. The Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition Model provides a method to find the impact of computer technology in teaching and learning process. It also helps to give an idea about the progress happening in educational field with the use of digital technology. It mainly focus upon the level of student engagement. The level of the student can be assessed by the importance of the questions asked by the students. There are different levels in the SAMR model: Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.

Substitution Level uses computer to perform the same work done by the teachers before. Example is the preparation of work sheet and distributing to students.

In Augmentation Level the computer is used to perform the common tasks, like providing a quiz round with Google form without using the pencil and paper. Thus saves paper. Another good advantage in this level is the feedback of the quiz. Students gets the feedback very fast while using technology, whereas the teacher’s manual correction will take more time without using technology.

Modification level involves the updating of classroom along with the technology. For example, a video can be shown to the students without sound, and can asks the students to frame dialogue with the video which will eventually improves their writing and thinking skills.

Redefinition Level helps to improve the class activities which were not at all imaginable, but the technology helps to attain all the tasks easily. [1]
