This is a temporary subpage for a proposed WikiProject GMInsidenews, a part of WikiProject automobiles that should be dedicated to improving General Motors Corporation-related articles.

Tasks: watching over GM-related templates and articles, provide general clean-up, add more information from sources provided by GMInsidenews members.

The members of the project will use this WikiProject to maintain a list of tasks and provide general communication between members in order to improve existing policies and propose new ones.

The Rationale for WikiProject GMI

A controversy arose on whether the WikiProject GMI should exist at all, in view of the WikiProject Automobiles. Here is the reasoning behind the proposed creation of this WikiProject:

1. The scope of the WikiProject Automobiles is unusually wide for a WikiProject, unlike much more focused projects like e.g. Wikiproject Tropical Cyclones. The full realization of the WikiProject will generate an immense amount of articles.

2. Therefore, the efforts to create, organize and further enhance the articles could perhaps be to a better effect if there were split into sections of narrower scope of interest, in a similar fashion to how Wikiprojects "Horse breeds" or "Dog breeds" were created as parts of Wikiproject Mammals.

3. Why Wikiproject GMI? Because members of the GMI not only have uremitting passion for GM vehicles and all topics related to GM in general, but also collectively possess an in-depth knowledge of those topics and access to superb resources on them.

Proposed scope of project

Below is a proposition of the topics and articles that ought to be within the Project's scope:

• GM vehicles - articles devoted to each and every vehicle mnaufactured by GM and its subsidiaries
  • Model articles
  • Disambiguation articles related to models of similar names
  • Consolidation of articles related to rebadged models
  • Prototypes, concept cars and such
  • My proposition is to include all Isuzu and Daewoo vehicles, as only a small protion of them is not related to GM in any way, but exclude Suzuki and Subaru - what do you think? What about Saab?
• GM platforms (articles, lists, appropriate mentioning and linking from other GM-related articles)
• GM engines (see above)
• GM transmissions?
• GM sites/factories (see above)
• GM brands (articles, lists, templates)
• GM history
  • GM history in general as a section of the "General Motors..." article, or a separate article if this will be found appropriate
  • History of GM brands (comment as above)
  • Important persona in GM history
  • Important innovations by GM (not necessairly complete articles, just making sure GM is appropriately mentioned)
• GM motorsports
• News related to GM on WikiNews?
• Any other suggestions?

    • M100/200 Matiz/Spark (this is an exception, the Matiz changed so little that I believe it should all stay in one article)
