This is a step-by-step process for finding reliable sources for medical content that satisfy WP:MEDRS. There are three main types of sources that are deemed high quality: 1) general of systematic reviews by reputable medical journals 2) recognized standard medical textbooks 3) position statements by nationally or internationally recognized expert bodies

Journal articles[edit]

  1. Check that it is pubmed indexed
  2. Check that it is a "review article". This is typically listed under "publication type"
  3. Check that it is from a well respect journal. These include:

Medical textbooks[edit]

  1. Is this a major medical textbook such as would be used during medical school?
  2. Has it been recently published
  3. Some well respected textbooks include:
  • Harrison's Textbook of Internal Medicine
  • Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine

Postion statements[edit]

Position statements and publications by the following organizations are deemed to be of high quality:

  • American Heart Association
  • Center for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Food and Drug Admininstration
  • ILCOR
  • World Health Organizations
  • United Nations

For alternative medicine high quality sources can be harder to find as content is often not deemed notable
