Reception[edit]

Electronic Beats's Adam Harper said "mallsoft conjures the muzak played in shopping malls."[3] Rate Your Music's Harley Magoo said "the concept of ambient commentary about consumer culture is not new and mallsoft fits easily within the spectrum of vaporwave."[2] In his 2015 documentary Vaporwave: A Brief History, amateur vaporwave musician Wolfenstein OS X described the subgenre "it is essentially the glorification of utilizing elevator music as its main inspiration. It relies heavily on a lot of reverb and making the music feel a part of a certain diegesis for a certain location."[1]
