Life and career[edit]

Early life and career beginnings[edit]

Edgar Barrera was born in Ciudad Miguel Alemán, Tamaulipas near the Mexico–United States border, with Roma, Texas on the other side. Due to his proximity to the town, Barrera was raised with both American and Mexican influences and traditions.[1] Barrera gave free custom CDs to various artists as a teenager, which led to him being noticed by Luigi Giraldo of Kumbia Kings.[2] Giraldo aided Barrera to get an internship for Colombian record producer and songwriter Andrés Castro in Miami, Florida.[3][4] He later had an interaction with Panamanian singer-songwriter Omar Alfanno, who allowed Barrera to co-write a song with him and Castro.[4]
