From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A 1972 Type 2 Volkswagen Micro-bus owned by Pierre Robert of the 93.3 WMMR radio station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania[1]. This vehicle has had one reincarnation in the form of a replacement 1970 VW bus named "Minerva 2", which was given as a gift to Robert by WMMR in 2001.

History[edit]

Minerva 1[edit]

The original Minerva mini-bus (micro-bus) was a 1972 VW van[2] that began a journey with Pierre Robert in 1981 from his home in San Francisco, California to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he intended to become a disc jockey. This Volkswagen micro-bus was impounded by The Philadelphia Parking Authority and later crushed in a junkyard.

Minerva 2[edit]

A 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 (T2) Westfalia was found by WMMR as a gift for Pierre Robert to replace the original Minerva. "Minerva 2" was given to Pierre at The Philadelphia Spectrum as a gift to celebrate his 20th Anniversary at WMMR.

Notable Events[edit]

In 1981, "Minerva 1" carried Pierre Robert and his friend from San Francisco to the City of Brotherly Love on four bald tires[3].

In 2002, "Minerva 2" was driven by Pierre Robert in the 93.3 WMMR Ozz-Fund. Robert drove all over the Delaware Valley collecting donations from fans and station listeners[4]
