All My Friends are Funeral Singers is a 2010 drama/experimental film, starring Angela Bettis and directed by Tim Rutili of the band Califone. The film makes extensive use of the music of Califone, and was released as a companion to the band's album of the same name. [1]

Synopsis

[edit]

Zel is a fortune teller and shares her home with a group of ghosts who help her remove clients’ aches and pains, advise gamblers, and channel cranky spirits to check on their loved ones. When a mysterious light appears in the woods and the ghosts realize that they are trapped, Zel is forced to come to terms with the origins of these spirits and let go of the only family she has ever known. [1]

Production History

[edit]

Rutili began writing the film's screenplay in September of 2008, and developed the screenplay alongside the album. [2] The screenplay was completed by December but production didn't begin until early April. [2] Rutili was heavily inspired by the 1970's Spanish drama "The Spirit of the Beehive," in addition to the works of David Lynch. [2][3]

The film made its premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. [4]
