KTU Shipyard also referred to as PT.Karya Teknik Utama is a privately owned and operated shipbuilding and ship repair company based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Founded in 2001, the company employs over 500 people and has delivered over 1,500 vessel units to date.

Known as one of Indonesia's leading shipbuilder companies[1] and subsidiaries of Karya Teknik Group, KTU Shipyard focuses on shipbuilding as well as maintenance, conversions, repairs, refit, and decommissioning for the Indonesian shipping sector. It also has a diverse product line that includes tugboats, barges, crane barges, tankers, and cement carriers.

KTU Shipyard now owns four shipyards in Batam, Indonesia, and one is still under construction.

History

Wardono Asnim founded KTU Shipyard in 1982 as a marine workshop in Jalan Kalap, Jakarta. The tiny workshop grew to construct wooden fishing boats in Marunda, Jakarta.

KTU opened its operation in Batam, Indonesia from 2001. Since then, KTU Shipyard has concentrated on creating vessels that are tailored to the requirements of its clients. In 2005, a second yard was added after the first. Since that time, KTU has continued to offer a wide variety of products to its customers, including tugboats, barges, cement carriers, and even tankers.

Sagulung

In addition to its ability to build 40 vessels at once, Sagulung is renowned for its 1,000-meter launch path, which facilitates shipbuilding. It also contains cutting-edge machinery and workshops for production-related tasks including auto blasting, shearing, bending, lathe, and CNC.[2]

Tanjung Riau

Tanjung Riau, which is well-known for its PEMAMEK assembly line, also has a 400-ton crane provided by KONE Crane. In addition to this, it contains numerous facilities, mostly for storage and workshops.

Marunda

This includes Cimolai, which aids in the lifting of vessels ranging from fishing boats to yachts. Marunda yard also handles the majority of ship repairs.

Sekupang

Since its inception in 2005, this yard has housed the majority of the company's ship repairs and barge production.

Pertamina Trans Kontinental

KTU completed 8 units of Transko Dara, 33M Harbourtugs in 2021 with a 2,390kw total power output and delivered it to Pertamina Trans Kontinental.[2]

Karya Pacific Shipping

Karya Pacific 2232, a twin screw tug built using RAL's TRA2700 design, was delivered to Karya Pacific and launched in mid-April 2022. [3]

PT Mitrabahtera Segara Sejati

KTU Shipyard started construction on a series of 91-meter-long deck cargo barge for PT. Mitrabahtera Segara Sejati with the steel-cutting ceremony that took place on May 20, 2022.[4]

PT Maritim Barito Perkasa

PT. Maritim Barito Perkasa has also commissioned KTU Shipyard to build 3 sets of 27-meter-long twin screw tugs and 390-foot Deck Cargo Barge in 2019.

D/S Norden

KTU built three units of 300-foot deck cargo barges, known as the Nord Panther 1, 2, and 3 in 2022.[2]

Partnership with Robert Allan LTD.

On March 26, 2020, KTU announced a collaboration with renowned Naval Architectural firm, Robert Allan Ltd, to renew its twin screw tug design as well as develop an articulated tug and barge design.[5]

Groot Ship Design

In 2019 , KTU began working with Groot Ship Design for a new type of 4400 DWT multipurpose vessels. KTU Shipyard is Indonesia's first shipbuilder to collaborate with Groot Ship Design.[1]

The 1,000th Barge

Seribu, which means 1,000 in Bahasa Indonesia, was launched as KTU Shipyard's 1,000th deck cargo barge on March 29, 2021.

SMK NEGERI 5 Batam Scholarship Program

KTU Shipyard was able to provide 164 students with scholarships thanks to their collaboration with SMK NEGERI 5 Batam. This program emphasizes the value of education and developing future contributors to Indonesia's shipbuilding sector.[6]
