Sadeq Rahimi

Sadeq Rahimi (born 1965) is an Iranian-Canadian psychological anthropologist and psychoanalytic theorist. He is currently a professor of psychoanalysis and culture at the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis, and a Lecturer at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School.

Early life and education

Born in Iran, Rahimi experienced the turbulent years of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 as an adolescent and was among the early wave of students after the "Cultural Revolution" during which Iranian universities were closed and all non-Islamic academics were removed. He studied English Literature at the Pahlavi University (renamed as Shiraz University)

after witnessing the murder of a number of friends and relatives by hardline revolutionaries, he left the country as a political refugee as the social and political environment continued to become increasingly hostile to non-revolutionary thought.
