A few of my views about administrators/sysops are listed below:

1)Above all, an admin should be civil, understanding, and carry a fire extinguisher. Admins should not be argumentative and should never escalate an argument. Unfortunately, we have a few too many admins who do the opposite. I'm not going to mention them by name, but anyone familiar with Wikipedia knows of a few examples.

2)Being an admin is a responsibility. Therefore, one should not pass his or her RfA and then disappear. I'm not saying admins can't take breaks, but it should be somewhat like you'd treat a job. You can take days off. You can take a week off occasionally. But in my opinion, an admin who is gone for a month without a good reason should be desysopped. Wikipedia has more than enough admins. The issue is that a few hundred admins aren't around. I cannot tell you the amount of admins I've found that haven't contributed in months.

3)Wikipedia has a problem. There simply aren't enough admins doing their jobs. There are too many admins in general, but not enough doing what admins should be doing. Reports on AIV and RPP, to name two, should be taken care of almost immediately. I see requests for page protection sitting there for hours sometimes. Just yesterday (3/25/08), I had an rpp sit there for just about four hours before someone took care of it. That's inexcusable.
