Winston I. (Inskip) Nunes (1912-1999) Taught and Mentored Benny Hinn[1]. "The Assemblies of God, fairly or otherwise, singled out Winston Nunes as representative of the Latter Rain doctrines."[2] Further, "Winston Nunes was the Latter Rain prophet who passed on the "impartation" to John Robert Stevens."[3] According to Bill Britton,
"in the restoration of the last days, we find certain men whose names are linked with the principles that were being revealed in their day... when we come to the time of the so-called "Latter Rain" revival of 1948-49 and the early 50's, the doctrine of "laying on of hands" (with prophecy) springs up, and we see ministries emerging into the national limelight as George and Ernie Hawtin, Myrtle Beal, Winston Nunes, Omar Johnson and many others."[4]
Nunes was born in the British West Indies on the island of Trinidad. He studied and graduated in 1933 from the Canadian Pentecostal Bible College in Toronto. He was ordained in 1934 by the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada by Rev. A. G. Ward. In 1938, he married Hilda Rebecca (Klassen) Nunes of Saskatchewan, Canada.
Preaching history[edit]
Nunes pastored at Bethel in Tacoma, WA (now Church for all nations[3]) "after Reverend Mosied suffered a stroke in 1948, after which the church was led by a number of interim pastors including Reverend Winston Nunes, until 1953 when Pastor Rasmussen was called back to serve." [5] Throughout his 47 year career, Nunes would take time during the year to travel and preach in churches across Canada and in the US. Nunes also spoke many times during camp meeting and pastors conferences at Elim Bible Institute over the years. Nunes also spoke at venues like Jesus ’76. In 1953 he began preaching in Toronto. In 1962, he moved the congregation from the YMCA to the Methodist Church located on Broadview, now Faith Temple[4]. He remained the pastor until his death in 1999.
Ties to other pastors[edit]
Nunes entertained many pastors over the years teaching them the word of God through pastoral conferences held in the spring and fall of each year at Faith Temple in Toronto from the ’60’s through the ‘80’s. Because of his care for pastors Elim Fellowship[6] has begun WINGS seminars in his honour. WINGS stands for " Winston I. Nunes Growth Seminars"[7]. Pastor Komal Singh founder and president of Trinity Gospel Ministries Int’l was also mentored by Nunes.[8] Nunes also had “close ties to Bethesda Missionary Temple[5]”.[9] In 1952, Nunes represented both the International Independent Assemblies of God and Elim Missionary Fellowship at the World Pentecostal Conference.[10]
