Climate

[edit]

Under the Köppen system, Grenoble has an oceanic climate (Cfb). In spite of being classified as maritime, Grenoble contains significant seasonal differences between the warm to hot summers and the cool to cold winters. Both temperatures above 30 °C (86 °F) for the summer months and winter air frosts are common. In addition, the climate is much gloomier than the Mediterranean region, although less so than northern France. Rainfall is quite heavy by French standards, although the number of rainy days is relatively moderate. Snowfall also occurs, although the climate of Grenoble itself is too mild to sustain a snow pack all winter, unlike the surrounding mountains. The record low of −27.1 °C (−16.8 °F) decisively indicates the city's continental influence, the record being significantly colder than typical records in maritime climates. Winter nights are also colder than all other French cities of significant size.

Climate

Winter scene at the Château Frontenac

The climate of Quebec City is classified as humid continental (Köppen climate classification Dfb).[8]

Quebec City experiences four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and occasionally hot, with periods of hotter temperatures which compounded with the high humidity, create a high heat index that belies the average high of 22–25 °C (72–77 °F) and lows of 11–13 °C (52–55 °F). Winters are cold, windy and snowy with average high temperatures −5 to −8 °C (23 to 18 °F) and lows −13 to −18 °C (9 to 0 °F). Spring and fall, although short, bring chilly to warm temperatures. Late heat waves as well as "Indian summers" are a common occurrence.[citation needed]

On average, Quebec City receives 1,190 millimetres (46.85 in) of precipitation, of which 899 millimetres (35.39 in) is rain and 303 millimetres (11.93 in) is the melt from 316 centimetres (124.4 in) of snowfall per annum.[note 1] The city experiences around 1,916 hours of bright sunshine annually or 41.5% of possible sunshine, with summer being the sunniest, but also slightly the wettest season. During winter, snow generally stays on the ground from the end of November till mid-April.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Quebec City was 36.1 °C (97 °F) on 17 July 1953.[9] The coldest temperature ever recorded was −36.7 °C (−34 °F) on 10 January 1890 and 14 January 2015.[10][11]

Bucharest has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa, by the -3 °C isotherm), though not subtropical by nature, but instead, close to a Humid continental climate (Dfa/Dfb), with warm to hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Owing to its position on the Romanian Plain, the city's winters can get windy, though some of the winds are mitigated due to urbanisation. Winter temperatures often dip below 0 °C (32 °F), sometimes even to −20 °C (−4 °F). In summer, the average temperature is 23 °C (73 °F) (the average for July and August). Temperatures frequently reach 35 to 40 °C (95 to 104 °F) in midsummer in the city centre. Although average precipitation and humidity during summer are low, occasional heavy storms occur. During spring and autumn, daytime temperatures vary between 17 and 22 °C (63 and 72 °F), and precipitation during spring tends to be higher than in summer, with more frequent yet milder periods of rain.[16][17]

Climate

Perm has a warm summer continental climate (Köppen: Dfb).[18] Winters are long, snowy and quite cold. Summers are moderately warm with cool nights, although summers are shorter than winters.

Climate =

Yevpatoria has a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) under the Köppen climate classification with cool winters and warm to hot summers.

Climate

As Yalta lies to the south of the Crimean Mountains and, within an amphitheatre of hills, the climate is mild. Yalta has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification: Cfa) that closely borders on a Mediterranean climate.[25] In February, the average temperature reaches 4 °C (39 °F). Snow is infrequent and melts soon thereafter. In July, the average temperature reaches 24 °C (75 °F). The average annual precipitation is 612 millimetres (24.1 in), most of it being concentrated in the colder months. The sun shines approximately 2,169 hours per year. Since the city is located on the shore of the Black Sea, the weather rarely becomes extremely hot due to the cool sea breezes. The average annual temperature for Yalta is 13 °C (55 °F). {Weather box |location = Yalta (1981–2010 normals, extremes 1948–present) |metric first = yes |single line = yes | Jan record high C = 17.8 | Feb record high C = 20.2 | Mar record high C = 27.8 | Apr record high C = 28.5 | May record high C = 33.0 | Jun record high C = 35.0 | Jul record high C = 39.1 | Aug record high C = 39.1 | Sep record high C = 33.2 | Oct record high C = 31.5 | Nov record high C = 25.2 | Dec record high C = 22.0 | year record high C = 39.1 | Jan high C = -20.1 | Feb high C = -15.1 | Mar high C = -0.5 | Apr high C = 14.4 | May high C = 19.8 | Jun high C = 24.8 | Jul high C = 28.4 | Aug high C = 28.5 | Sep high C = 23.5 | Oct high C = 17.9 | Nov high C = 12.3 | Dec high C = -8.6 | year high C = 16.8 | Jan mean C = -14.4 | Feb mean C = 4.0 | Mar mean C = 6.1 | Apr mean C = 10.7 | May mean C = 15.9 | Jun mean C = 20.7 | Jul mean C = 24.1 | Aug mean C = 24.1 | Sep mean C = 19.1 | Oct mean C = 13.9 | Nov mean C = 9.0 | Dec mean C = -25.8 | year mean C = 13.2 | Jan low C = 2.2 | Feb low C = -11.6 | Mar low C = -3.5 | Apr low C = 7.7 | May low C = 12.6 | Jun low C = 17.2 | Jul low C = 20.5 | Aug low C = 20.6 | Sep low C = 15.9 | Oct low C = 5.2 | Nov low C = -6.5 | Dec low C = -18.7 | year low C = 10.3 | Jan record low C = -12.2 | Feb record low C = -12.3 | Mar record low C = -7.3 | Apr record low C = -3.8 | May record low C = 2.8 | Jun record low C = 7.8 | Jul record low C = 12.4 | Aug record low C = 10.0 | Sep record low C = 3.9 | Oct record low C = -1.1 | Nov record low C = -8.9 | Dec record low C = -7.4 | year record low C = -12.3 |precipitation colour = green | Jan precipitation mm = 77 | Feb precipitation mm = 60 | Mar precipitation mm = 48 | Apr precipitation mm = 32 | May precipitation mm = 36 | Jun precipitation mm = 37 | Jul precipitation mm = 31 | Aug precipitation mm = 46 | Sep precipitation mm = 42 | Oct precipitation mm = 53 | Nov precipitation mm = 62 | Dec precipitation mm = 86 | year precipitation mm = 609 | Jan humidity = 76 | Feb humidity = 73 | Mar humidity = 73 | Apr humidity = 72 | May humidity = 69 | Jun humidity = 68 | Jul humidity = 62 | Aug humidity = 61 | Sep humidity = 65 | Oct humidity = 71 | Nov humidity = 75 | Dec humidity = 75 | year humidity = 70 | Jan rain days = 14 | Feb rain days = 12 | Mar rain days = 13 | Apr rain days = 12 | May rain days = 11 | Jun rain days = 10 | Jul rain days = 8 | Aug rain days = 7 | Sep rain days = 10 | Oct rain days = 10 | Nov rain days = 12 | Dec rain days = 15 |year rain days = 134 | Jan snow days = 6 | Feb snow days = 6 | Mar snow days = 4 | Apr snow days = 0.2 | May snow days = 0 | Jun snow days = 0 | Jul snow days = 0 | Aug snow days = 0 | Sep snow days = 0 | Oct snow days = 0 | Nov snow days = 1 | Dec snow days = 3 | year snow days = 20 | Jan sun = 73 | Feb sun = 79 | Mar sun = 135 | Apr sun = 180 | May sun = 237 | Jun sun = 286 | Jul sun = 316 | Aug sun = 290 | Sep sun = 235 | Oct sun = 166 | Nov sun = 99 | Dec sun = 67 | year sun = 2163 |source 1 = Pogoda.ru.net[5] |source 2 = NOAA (sun 1961–1990)[22] |date = March 2011}}
