RfA[edit]

Thanks for asking. Yes, the previous statement still is true, for the foreseeable future. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 15:36, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Wow. That's nice of you. Sure, I'll go ahead and do it. So, what's the next step? Lazulilasher (talk) 18:41, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok cool; the next step is that I try my best to write you a nomination statement that does not suck, after that you have to fill out the questions then transclude the RfA onto the main adminship page. While I write my nomination I would heavily suggest that you read over Wikipedia:Deletion policy, Wikipedia:Protection policy and Wikipedia:Blocking policy. - Icewedge (talk) 18:49, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, it's live. Wow. Lazulilasher (talk) 22:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I was just about to, but as I was previewing my edit I saw the orange bar on top of the page. Yeah, don't worry, I'm withdrawing it now. CL — 04:33, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, we got the same result in the end anyway :D CL — 04:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Nice work. You might want to consider commenting on the talk page if you feel like it. Thanks for being bold. --John (talk) 02:15, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, to tell the truth though, I didn't realize there was such a commotion going on around that page when I made the edit; I was just responding to a query from the WP:NCHP (I did see the few reverts in the page history but they all looked like they were old). RfA thanks[edit]

Hello Icewedge. Thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for Adminship, which was successful with 111 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. I have to say I am more than a little overwhelmed by this result and I greatly appreciate your trust in me. I will do my best to use the tools wisely. Thanks again. Regards. Thingg 23:59, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Icewedge: thank you for nominating me for adminship. I was rather reluctant to enter the RfA-pit, but everything turned out well; likely, due to your excellent nomination statement. I want to express my thanks in finding enough confidence in me to nominate me to the position. Most kind regards, Lazulilasher (talk) 00:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I was glad to do it! Good luck with the tools :) Icewedge (talk) 01:39, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

 • Thanks Lucasbfr (and Deskana!) I was thinking about requesting such protection just to save work for the RC patrollers; I personally don't mind, I think most of its rather hilarious actually, me and my friends (IRL) always laugh over how absurd the history for my userpage is. Thanks though, I guess this stuff was really nasty, I have e-mailed Deskana to see if it is something I should be worried about. About your offer of editing my page: if I am not going to be able to edit it myself I think I just might want to go back to something simple so could you just blank it all except the userpage banner and the box where I multi-license my contribs. Thanks :) Icewedge (talk) 07:12, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Done Sorry you have to deal with this... ~ L'Aquatique[talk] 07:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Alaskan Harvest Seafood page deletion[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you deleted a page I created due to something about not insignificant mention. I wanted to point you to a link that I believe provides a credible reference - it is the 5th paragraph down on this NY times article.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=990DE4DC1F3BF935A15752C1A9659C8B63&sec=&spon=&&scp=1&sq=%22alaskan%20harvest%22&st=cse

Might you reconsider this deletion and help me reinstate the page?

Thanks. Mlepisto (talk) 23:45, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

This may also be another: http://gourmetfood.about.com/od/wheretobuygourmetfoods/tp/wherebuyfish.htm

Hello there Mlepisto, I am sorry that your article was deleted (I know how anoying that can be as I had one or two of my articles deleted back when I was new) but the deletion was valid. The two pages you cite show that the company is not entirely unknown but the wikipedia notability guideline require that a subject recive "significant coverage in reliable sources" before it deserves inclusion in the encylopedia; both sources you cite are reliable but are not that siginifigant/in depth, the nyt mentions is only a few sentances, same with the about.com ref. Now, I know "significant coverage" is a rather ambigous statement but I interpert it too be at least two full length articles primarily on the subject or dealing with the subject so I stand by my AfD of Alaskan Harvest Seafood. If you still want to contest its deletion you can request a deletion review but I doubt the deletion would be overturned, sorry. Icewedge (talk) 01:36, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

A question...[edit]

Icewedge, dah-ling, I've been meaning to ask you this for a while, and since your userpage is at now at my mercy and you can't refuse me or else I'll put up incriminating photos of you stealing my cookies, I'm going to shoot. Are you interested in becoming an administrator? I would be honored to nominate you, and not just because you nominated me. Your contributions are great, you've got experience in admin areas, a wonderful attitude- I'm quite certain you would pass with flying colors. You in? ~ L'Aquatique[talk] 06:31, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, thanks for the offer, and, yes I am interested in adminship at some point; but not right now, there are several issues that I would like to resolve before I run again, mostly that of User:Weburiedourtreasuresinthedumpster (a checkuser was run on that account and apparently we share an IP; I think the fact that I was not autoblocked by the block of that account is pretty good evidence that our IP's had changed (ASC DSL the service I uses has a pool of 120k IP's which are randomly assigned) but I have been meaning to get a second checkuser opinion to see if there is anything else to help disprove a connection).
I also would rather like to go with a self-nom when the time comes, I know that kind of runs counter to RfA common sense but out of every Wiki-user I know best what I would like to be said.
Your offer is greatly appreciated :), but I am not need of such right now. Icewedge (talk) 23:50, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
What, not going with "Icewedge: he will not delete the main page, sincerely Protonk (talk)"?  ;) Protonk (talk) 23:57, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Aaw, okay. Well, let me know if you change your mind or want a "co-nom". ~ L'Aquatique[talk] 04:55, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: Roldan Fernandez[edit]

Re your message: It was indeed nonsense, not a legitimate stub. The article first claimed he was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and then implied that he was the current Rookie of the Year for a season that isn't over with nor even a current driver. I rechecked the article, the editor also claimed that he was the 2007 champion for the World Series by Renault, which is patently false. It was Álvaro Parente. I will concede that I selected the wrong deletion reason. It wasn't random garbage. I should have selected G3/Vandalism instead of G1/Nonsense, but either way, I believe the deletion was correct. The notability claim was clearly bogus. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:03, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

(this edit conflicted with your alteration to your post so it may be a bit out of context, this response was based on this revision): I happen to have the source of that page right here, handily provided to me by firefoxes cache:

Roldan Fernandez(March 17, 1978, Madrid, Spain) is a NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver. He is the NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie Of The Year. He drives the #12 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger for Penske Racing. Fernandez won the World Series by Renault in 2007. == Early Career == "

Maybe with some research it could be decided that this page was a hoax but it is quite definitely not "patent nonsense" and I would even say not an obvious enough hoax to meet CSD G3. Icewedge (talk) 07:09, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
In light of your alterations to your comment: I guess the speedy deletion might be an acceptable, pushing the limits a bit, as, to me, someone unfamiliar with NASCAR, the hoax was neither blatant not obvious but an AfD of this page wold have just been a waste however so IAR. Next time please give a more clear deletion summary though; explain in short why its a hoax please. When I looked at your deletion at first I could not understand why the hell you had deleted the page. Icewedge (talk) 07:17, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Re: RfA[edit]

Hello, thank you very much for your offer! You are right that I have been asked in the past about the position, and I have to say again that I must decline your offer. I don't feel like that the process would be difficult, but I would prefer to have time to review the various admin tasks that can be done. I am pretty busy in real life, so I do not have the time available to me right now. I have been focused these days mainly on WikiProject Films duties as a coordinator -- my article-building (my main task) has even fallen recently, if you check my monthly edit count. But I do appreciate being considered, and I hope I will bump into you inthe near future! :) —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Ridiculous 22nd Century Page[edit]

How do I delete the nonsense without being called a vandal? 76.124.119.34 (talk) 05:14, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

First off sorry about the wait, I did not see that you had posted this at the top of my page (for future reference please put new comments at the bottom). I also apologize for reverting your edit as vandalism the first time (although I did undo it within a few seconds); when ever I see such a large chunk of text getting removed from a page I naturally go for the revert button and that time I forgot to check the edit summary.
About your problem; I am not quite sure if a agree with you on the fact that the entire section should be removed but I will leave such matters up to those who monitor the the article. About getting it past the recent changes patrollers (who I see, like me, have reverted your edit as vandalism several times) just justify your change on the talk page first and then give a large enough edit summary so that even the high speed Hugglers will notice. Icewedge (talk) 06:14, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

XCpwnzor[edit]

Yes, I'm aware of that. I'll be satisfied that this isn't a VOA when the requisite four days have elapsed from the creation of the account ... vandals have been known to try to make an account seem legit until they can start moving articles and editing semi-protected pages (and frankly, I really think usernames with that string have no place on Wikipedia to begin with, as it implies something totally at odds with what Wikipedia is about, even if they aren't vandals). Daniel Case (talk) 12:58, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I really don't think issuing a basic username warning to a possible VOA is helpful though. Icewedge (talk) 17:50, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
