A Side Productions[edit]

Hi Icewedge, thanks for your comment. Being a new user, I really try to follow the Wiki criterias. Sometimes apparently not doing so well... (I'm not even sure this is the right place to reply, hope it's ok). It would be a great help for me if you could answer a few questions.

1. Is there a way to prevent this article, A Side Productions, to be deleted? As you can see, it only consists of one single line, but the rest of the article will probably be published later this week. Including citations, references and sources.

2. If it will be deleted, can I create a new A Side Productions article when it is complete?

3. I´m looking for a Wiki mentor (probably not the right term), helping me with upcoming articles. Where could I find this "mentor"?

Thank you for your time. Dafos (talk) 17:49, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

This is as good a place as any to raise your concerns I guess. To avoid deletion you need add, or at least show that there exist, reliable sources on the group too demonstrate notability per Wikipedia's general notability guideline or show that the group meets one of the criteria on the music related notability guideline. Feel free to make your voice heard at the deletion discussion and to argue your case. If you are unable to develop your article sufficiently and it ends up being deleted but you feel that you still could show that the group meets the inclusion guidelines then there are several avenues of recourse you can take. If you still have content to add to the article then you can create a version in your userspace (e.g. user:Dafos/ASP draft) and work on it there until you feel that it meets the cited guidelines and then request a deletion review, or alternatively if the article is still very stubby when it gets deleted you can just re-post it into the mainspace as there is very little prejudiced against creation of a large article attached to a deletion of microstub.
About mentoring, you are probably looking for Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User, a program I have been involved with. I no longer take on "adoptees" officialy, but if you need any help you can always come ask me. Icewedge (talk) 00:45, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi Icewedge, thanks for your answers to my questions. I have now started editing A Side Productions' article. References still lacking, but in the mean time perhaps you could consider removing the template? Thanks. Dafos (talk) 19:03, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
About the template; No, I can't sorry. If I was still the only one to have !voted to delete at the Articles for Deletion debate I might consider it but as half a dozen other editors have come out in favor of deletion I am not allowed to just shut down the nomination at my leisure. To be frank I really doubt if your article stands a chance anyways, It does not hurt to try though and don't be discouraged if the AfD does not come out in your favor, many of my first articles were deleted as well. Icewedge (talk) 20:43, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Note: I have merged the two sections as they had the same heading and the exact same purpose.
Thanks, Icewedge. Sorry if I take your time yet again, but I don't understand. In your doubt, why doesn't my article stand a chance? (Also thanks for your encouragement.) And where can I reach the AfD? I'd really like to try avoiding this article, which soon will be edited further, to be deleted. Dafos (talk) 21:32, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
It is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A Side Productions (which is linked from the template), but I see that you have already found it and commented there. I said it did not "stand a chance" because I did some review of the sourcing out their before I nominated the AfD and found very little, not nearly enough to pass the general notability guideline. Who knows though, I may have missed some so if you are able to turn up some coverage in reliable sources (if a topic has significant covered in RS it is consider by default to be notable) the article may yet be saved. The AfD is due to be closed anytime now though (AfD's run for a minimum of about 5 days and this one has been going six) so I don't think you are going to be able to avert a delete decision in time. Instead I suggest you place a copy in your userspace (as I explained above) and work on it until you think it is ready and then request a deletion review. DYK for Robert Furman[edit]

Hi,

I left some questions at the DYK nomination page regarding your hook for Robert Furman. Here are my comments, copied from there:

Length verified, but I'm curious about the kidnapping...the refs given in the article seem to imply different things. The LAT ref (which is the only one cited for the hook) says the plan to kidnap Heisenberg failed but doesn't say what Furman's role in it was; the AP ref says that Heisenberg was detained and Furman oversaw his detention; the NYT ref, the most detailed, also says that Heisenberg was captured and detained under Furman's leadership. Which is it?

If you have a moment, please respond at the DYK page. Thanks! —Politizer talk/contribs 21:45, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

I have replied and suggested an alternate hook and removed the sentence from the article as there does seem to be a possible explanation but the claim does remain factually dubious. Icewedge (talk) 00:36, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

About my report of User:Fullyang to WP:UAA. I had actually created that account per an Account Creation request as part of my duties on the account creation team. I didn't notice until after I'd created it that the e-mail address was using the Fullyang.com domain name. Do you still think the UAA request was wrong? I'd like to hear your thoughts.--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 03:33, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Eh, I guess if that is the case than the UAA report was acceptable, it would have been better if you had included all that in your original rationale though. Icewedge (talk) 02:36, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

August 1, 2003[edit]

I was stunned to see the discussion on this closed as "no consensus, default to keep", since very few people suggested an outright keep, and most would have been satisfied with a merge. I honestly don't think the closing administrator paid attention to any of the comments. Regardless of how you felt on this issue-- delete, merge, keep -- I think that everyone's comments showed that a lot of people care about this issue, and "no consensus" was similar to a snub. I've asked for a review, and invite everyone to give their two cents worth at [1]. Best wishes. Mandsford (talk) 23:52, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Your neutral on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Efe[edit]

Hello Stife, I too am a bit unhappy with some of the overzealous response some of the oppose !votes are receiving. However in general, discussion at RFA is an excellent thing and I must say IMHO that was a rather petty threat. I doubt any Bureaucrat would give much weight to a !vote made in response to perceived oppose badgering. It also makes little sense to factor in the behavior of others when considering your !vote, in the end an admin won't be any better or worse for whatever drama happened at their RFA. "Concerns about communication skills" is a valid reason for hesitation, but using a vote to make a point is just not the way to go.

P.S. sorry for not using your "wizard", its late and, like any human being, I prefer the mode of communication with which I am most accustomed. Icewedge (talk) 07:32, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I don't think neutrals make much of a difference either way. I do have strong feelings about people arguing so much with oppose !voters, though, especially when there are so many.
For what it's worth, you wouldn't have found anything useful in the message wizard for this message :) It's mostly so that people who are annoyed that I speedied their page or want help that any admin can provide are able to answer their own question or are referred to AN and don't have to wait for me to be online. AFD closing[edit]

Hey there, I noticed you closed this AfD. While I appreciate everyone helping with AfDs, when closing do not forget to follow the instructions, e.g. removing the AfD template from the article and posting the result to the talk page. I did it for you this time though. If you plan to do regular non-admin AfD closures, consider using Mr.Z-man's closeAFD script to automate the process. Regards SoWhy 08:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. Non-admin closure on Mo-Ranch[edit]

Do you really think you should do non-admin closures when there are only three votes? The AfD holds more weight if an administrator gives it the official close. I thought non-admin closures were only to be used in snowball keeps, which that AfD obviously wasn't because of the lack of momentum. Themfromspace (talk) 03:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Non-admins are given the right to make reasonable keep closes (its a common practice), and, after a listing of four days with several in depth reliable sources presented and no delete votes (aside from the very weak nomination reason: "does not seem notable") I did not feel that there was any benefit that would come of a longer listing. Its the discussion in the AfD that gives a close weight, not the closer. If the article for some odd reason is ever taken to AfD again I doubt the fact that I closed it, as opposed too an admin, will make any significant difference. No problem. I doubt was anything more than a unhappy teenage but there was no harm in alerting them and it was not that hard, it took me only three minutes to find the relevant e-mail address and then another two to type out a sufficent message. I did it mostly just to cover for Bstone though, as had such a threat developed into reality he could (I think?) have been held responsible for not alerting the authorities. Icewedge (talk) 20:15, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
I think perhaps he didn't make the connection that the threat, serious or not, was directed toward Obama. Anyway, I appreciate your initiative, and next time I'll know to do the same myself. Best regards, Tkynerd (talk) 00:39, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Your user box[edit]

Hi Icewedge. I saw your request at DRV and then your userbox. Your userbox reads "This user pushes his various POV's with extreme zeal." That makes you POV on your POV! I didn't even know that was possible. -- Suntag 16:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Actually I imagine pushing ones POV on ones POV is quite common (e.g. "what do you mean? I push no POV! I am entirely neutral!"). You could probably iterate that recursively too, ("I remain entirely neutral in my assessment of my assertion of the neutrality of my POV!) ;) Icewedge (talk) 20:21, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

ANI Threat info[edit]

Did you get a reply from the Secret Service on that threat. Btw, I'm going to file a abuse report on the matter. Rio de oro (talk) 00:00, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

No they haven't, which is worrying, I would have thought that they would have at least sent me an acknowledgment reply or something but I don't know. I don't think an abuse report will do much good though as there is not much good we can do if it is not a public IP. If the Secret Service judges it a threat they are the best prepared to handle it. (sorry for the slow response, I was on a trip) Icewedge (talk) 06:18, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Some commercial IPs DO respond to abuse reports you know. I'm pretty sure I made a particular local vandal/sockpuppeteer disappear after vandalizing from an Embarq IP. There's just a few out there that totally ignore abuse reports, and there's probably an equal amount of schools/employers that do the same. Fact: Many schools, employers, libraries, and WiFi operators watch for abuse such as Wiki vandalism periodically, and while abuse reports may get their attention or make them more likely to take action, many of the more responsive ones don't even need us to complain. Example: Charlotte County Public Schools (blocks access to WP due to abuse by tarpon/manta cheerleaders), Hospital Corporation of America (does NOT block WP). GO-PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 01:50, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
I imagine some do, yes, but they would tend to be the exceptions rather than the rule I would imagine. Commercial IP's are much more protective of their users as opposed to schools. In this case I don't think such a report is the right way to go either way, if its a real threat we are entirely ill equipped to handle the situation, and, if it is a joke I don't think we could really get anyone for a single vandalism. Icewedge (talk) 02:25, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

'Chris rinker' prod[edit]

In regards to the article Chris rinker, which you proposed for deletion, I have marked the article for speedy deletion, as I think that the article meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion. In cases where it applies, speedy deletion is preferable to proposed deletion. I have left the {{prod}} tag in place, so that if speedy deletion is rejected, your proposed deletion will remain in place. Thanks! -- Fullstop (talk) 04:28, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

by accident I also added a {{db-person}}, which would match the intent of the NN prod I think. Although by accident, I left it in. -- Fullstop (talk)
  • Thats OK, It made a lot of claims (something about him being one of the most renowned artists from Seattle in particular) so I was a little bit hesitant about speedy deletion (WP:CSD just says any assertion of notability, not just a cited assertion of notability) but it is likely the tag will be successful. Vandalism[edit]

Reverting erasures to my own talk page by non admin Sjessey is. EagleScout18 (talk) 03:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Sjessey should not be re-adding warnings that you have removed, but that is not simple vandalism and you still have absolutely no justification for giving the edit comment "remove vandalism" for this edit. Icewedge (talk) 04:21, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I disagree. this type of edit was done repeatedly. Pardon me, but, what is your role in this, exactly? EagleScout18 (talk) 04:32, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

My role in this is that I came to your talk page in response to your {{helpme}} where you asked how you could protect your talk page from vandalism. Wondering what 'vandalism' you could be referring to I checked the history of the page and saw that the source of what you were calling 'vandalism' was in fact Andrew c (talk · contribs), an administrator. Icewedge (talk) 04:40, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Okay, so no real role. Thank you for clarifying. EagleScout18 (talk) 05:28, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I assume that is a hint for me to get lost. I know it must be irritating to have me pop out of nowhere so to speak and start to rail on you for the way you manage your talk page but could you please tone it down. You can remove material from your talk page if you wish, you don't need to justify such a removal by making false claims of vandalism. Lets put this incident behind us though, there are other more pressing things to worry about than things already done with no lasting effect. Icewedge (talk) 05:43, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I agree, let's put it behind us. To clarify, at no time did I accuse the admin of vandalism, but the user who repeatedly reverted my talk page. That's a no-no. Thanks for understanding, I hope we can move forward with civility. Thank you for your input and help, EagleScout18 (talk) 05:59, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I've been reviewing and cleaning up to some extent after this editor's edits and he seems to have a serious problem grasping and/or following procedures, policies, etc. Basically, someone headed for a block soon if they don't slow down. Not sure how to approach this. Wikidemon (talk) 05:24, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hardly. EagleScout18 (talk) 05:30, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I don't know either. ES18 looks like a probable sock though, within his first three edits he was already edit warring, POV pushing and citing WP:NOR. I will search around to see if I can find a sockmaster. Icewedge (talk) 05:50, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me, you *just* suggested we move on and get along and now you're accusing me of WP:SOCK? So much for WP:AGF. I'll welcome your apology, thank you. EagleScout18 (talk) 06:05, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I was more intending just to close debate over the talk page vandalism thing, we were getting nowhere with that, however Wikidemon brought up something that I felt I needed to address. Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit on the sockpupperty accusation although I must say that the first few edits you made to WP are extremely suspicious. Icewedge (talk) 06:11, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

I fail to see anything suspicious at all, except how more experienced users can use bullying and intimidation on a new user, even http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#User:JRH95_and_also_User:EagleScout18 report them to ANI because they used RfC instead of edit warring. EagleScout18 (talk) 06:22, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the more I see the more I agree about the sock. I asked for some guidance on AN/I, which seems to have set hm off - best to continue the discussion there. If he's really just a confused newbie he needs to chill, if a sock/troll he'll be blocked pretty quickly and likely just start up another account in due course. Corsican towers[edit]

Perhaps not, but according to what I can find at [2] - which appears to be the local ministry for culture and history, if I understand it correctly, each of those towers has been inscribed in the French national registry of historic monuments. And I can tell you from experience that those are not well-covered online. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 02:54, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Still, I would be watchful when using a bot to create entries and I would strongly suggest that you retire whatever algorithm you are using, whatever source the bot is tapping is full of many seemingly non-notable entries, I spot checked a few more of the articles you have created and I doubt any of them would survive if taken to AfD. Icewedge (talk) 06:05, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
I'll work on finding some way of establishing it, then - at the very least, a link to the Corsican web listings for listed monuments on the island. The Chop Shop[edit]

Ahem, a short while ago, you removed a CSD tag I placed on the article The Chop Shop saying that it is notable, so I placed some tags on it. Later, you brought back the tag I placed. So why did you think it is not notable, and why did you remove it in the first place? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:24, 20 December 2008 (UTC) Oh, you prodded it. Never mind the above text. Anyway, why did you think at first it was non-notable? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:24, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I kind of totally screwed that up with that, sorry.
When I first came across the article I fixed the links ([3]) which turned out to be blue links showing that they were signed on with Psychopathic Records and contained a notable group member, Shaggy 2 Dope. As both of those are reasonable assertions of notability, criteria similar to each of those assertions can be found at WP:MUSC #5 and #6 respectively I removed the tag ([4]). Upon re-reading the article however I saw that it contained the cousin of notable musician, not the musician himself so I decided that it actually might meet CSD A7 and so I decided to revert it back to the tag. So I tried to do that using, TW. When I went to do the revert I wanted to cite some specifics in my edit summary so when TW was asking for a summary I hit the back button on my browser so I could copy paste the labels name and I guess twinkle does not take that well, so thats where the two reverts without a summary came from ([5];[6]). After that failure, I was angry at the CSD tag and the article is borderline so I went with a prod ([7]).
I believe I have just made a complete fool out of myself in the middle of my RfA! Not good :(
Anyways, sorry for the confusion. Icewedge (talk) 02:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer, it means a lot! However, while I do plan on sending out 'thankspam' if successful, I intend to keep it minimalist, just a one line notification or something. I really do appreciate your offer though and it is tempting given how awesome Mizu onna sango15's was :) Icewedge (talk) 19:07, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
No prob! Let me know if you change your mind, and of course good luck, although I doubt you need it. l'aquatique || talk 07:56, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

WikiCup notice[edit]

The 2009 WikiCup will begin on January 1, 2009. The first round will run through March 31, 2009. For more information on this tournament, read the "about" section on the main WikiCup page.

This year, we have a different system in calculating points. At User:Garden/WikiCup/Submissions, you will find information about submitting your article (and other) work to earn points. Each contestant will have their own individual subpage for submitting completed work to us.

This year, User:ST47 will also be running one of his bots to calculate mainspace edits and read your submission subpages to calculate the point values you receive based on our scoring chart.

Questions or comment? Ask at the talk page or go directly to Garden or IMatthew's talk page. Good luck and Happy Holidays! -- ayematthew and Garden. 13:51, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations[edit]

After a strong showing of community support, you are now an admin and I've added the new user right for you. Spend some more time on the administrator's reading list and be conservative in your use of the tools, particularly blocking, and particularly at first. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it, and keep up the good work, I'm sure you'll do well. Again, congrats. - Taxman Talk 08:13, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Woo! Garden. 09:35, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Congrats Icewedge! Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:43, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Congrats! I'm no longer the junior admin. Now YOU have to bring coffee for 1,600 admins every day until someone else is promoted! Making coffee in a 55 gallon drum is a challenge. By the way, cream, no sugar. Kenyan.--Wehwalt (talk) 11:08, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
And fair trade. Must be fair trade. And organic. Not that civet crap either. :) - Taxman Talk 11:52, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Sign of a new admin with real potential: the first thing he does is remove his extra perms... Congrats, Icewedge, I think you're going to be a great admin and I look forward to working with you. Viva la Alaskan Cabal! l'aquatique || talk 18:12, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
