About me[edit]

Hello, I'm Marko Viitanen and I'm a PhD student at Tampere University in Tampere, Finland, which is also my hometown.

Interests[edit]

I have a keen interest in Video Compression, especially the Advanced Video Coding, High-Efficiency Video Coding and Versatile Video Coding standards. I enjoy coding in C, C++, and JavaScript.

Projects[edit]

I have worked extensively on the development of video compression software. My notable projects include:

  • Kvazaar: An open-source HEVC encoder which I have been the main developer of. Kvazaar is known for its efficient execution of the HEVC standard.
  • uvg266: A branched version of Kvazaar which is converted to utilize VVC video standard, with most of the optimizations remaining and added tools for efficient compression.
