Fanny Campbell is a name taken from a 19th century publication titled "Fanny Campbell, the female pirate captain: a tale of the revolution."

The book was penned by Maturin Murray Ballou (1820-1895) pseudonymously as Lieutenant Murray. Fanny Campbell was first published in Boston, 1845, by Frederick Gleason's United States Publishing House.
