User:Femke/2024 admin election notes
We've got an amazing 32 editors standing (after a few withdrawals) for the election. This means it's a challenge to give each candidate enough attention. I'm collecting these elections notes to make it easier for myself and others to find key information on candidates.
My thinking on the voting
[edit]My personal RfA criteria focus on showing clue and being civil and kind, and these metrics are of course only part of the equation.
Given the spirit of the elections, I won't say who I will be supporting. I will say I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of candidates, given the large numbers here. Before the discussion, I tallied my "Probablies", "Maybes" and "Don't supports", and my "Probablies" group is largest, followed by the "Maybies". In the end, I supported 20 candidates, I abstained for 4 where I felt I had insufficient information, and opposed 8. In a normal RfA, I oppose less, partially as I don't want to add to the pile for a RfA that's already headed to 'unsuccessful', as each oppose might sting, but also as I normally can trust the vetting of the nominators, which were often lacking here.
We seem to be attracting different types of candidates than at normal RfAs, for instance those mostly active on different projects who could use the tools for cross-wiki issues, the old anti-vandalism admin candidate, or those with some gaps in editing due to real life. This is the change I wanted to see in RfA, so I'm very glad we might get more people helping out in diverse ways.
Chime in
[edit]This is a fork from User:Novem Linguae/Essays/2024 administrator election notes. Other guides are listed at the bottom. If you see mistakes, feel free to correct them. If you want to help fill the table out, chime in. For those candidates who want to help out with deletion tasks, I'd like to add AfD/CSD stats if time allows. And finally, I'd like to dig further which candidates got a nomination offer from a trusted user (in the past or for these elections).

Notes
[edit]- ^ I've looked at Wikipedia:Editing restrictions and Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log
- ^ I've also checked all open and closed CCI cases. None of the editors have a case against them under their current name.
- ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
- ^ An IP editor started a discussion after poorly sourced text was reverted, which led AD to reply curteously.
- ^ Admin score shows experience at AIV/RfPP
- ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message. Also see evidence of snappy edit summaries (1, 2), both in response to hate speech.
- ^ Blocked in 2023 for 3RR, but admin unblocked saying it was an erroneous block.
- ^ Proposal to topic ban from J.K. Rowling, after introducing text-source integrity issues (pluralize opposition, which was one person f.i.). ANI disagreement on 2020 Irish general election, where multiple editors objected to conflict resolution behaviour.
- ^ Remained calm and kind when an IP editor made wild accusations. Generally kind but firm in discussions
- ^ Misunderstanding of the copyright exception to 3RR (did not reach 3RR even with these reverts).
- ^ Too difficult to search, given loads of false positives
- ^ Odd comment about IPs not being allowed to make editorial decisions. Hawkeye disengaged with ANI thread before answering what was meant. I've not looked at COIN archives for other candidates, but I'm aware of this discussion where it took a while to get full clarification from Hawkeye.
- ^ I encouraged Innisfree herself to run :).
- ^ States 1 GA on userpage. Wrote 3.2% of Clifton Suspension Bridge. No edits to the GA review page. Userbox removed after objections during discussion.
- ^ Reacted to retaliatory editing by described contributions of other as "stupid stuff" (or other way around, as I didn't look at deleted edits)
- ^ Once, an IP got blocked for block evasion after "reporting" Pbritti.
- ^ IP editor didn't like being asked for more sources. Kind response from Peaceray.
- ^ 5% authorship of an old GA
- ^ Examples (1, 2) of not archiving a reasonable message.
- ^ Looked at 10 reports. All led to blocks.
- ^ Has a block but it is ancient history. 2007.
- ^ Two threads from before 2010, one related to the 3RR block
- ^ Of the last 18 requests here, 16 were honoured, 1 seemed an accidental part of a list, 1 was reasonable request which was resolved with a block
- ^ One block for outing >5 years ago, as explained in nomination statement. Lesson learned, quickly unblocked
- ^ A user warned for NPA opened an thread on S.p, calling this harassment.
- ^ All requests since 2022 were honoured. 34 requests total, with some misses before that (when to block/when to protect)
- ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
- ^ Example of not archiving a reasonable message.
- ^ An 2011 incident where Valenciano made an unfortunate remark on Hispanics, and apologised when it was pointed out calmly.
- ^ I reviewed their post-2020 requests, noted at least one mistake, and the answer I asked about it showed some incomplete understanding
- ^ Not all the creations are fully cited. For instance Point of use water filter, pressure sewer, reservoir safety contain uncited content
- ^ Ancient sockpuppetry (2006)
- ^ New editor opened an ANI thread after being warned by Velella for disruptive editing. Closed before Velella could reply.
- ^ Blocked in 2021. Reversed 30 minutes later.
- ^ I've looked at Wikipedia:Editing restrictions and Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log
- ^ I've also checked all open and closed CCI cases. None of the editors have a case against them under their current name.
- ^ An ANI was starting about correct deletion tagging and Waqar defended himself.
