If you could experiment with an entire Wikipedia, what would you do?
The scenarios described in the proceeding essays are serious, if not unlikely. Some are more reasonable—i.e., easily accepted by the community—than others. The rest may be denounced as ludicrous or foolhardy.
None are purely intended to be improvements; whether the results would be good or bad, they are simply reimaginations of Wikipedia. It is important to note that I do not support all, or perhaps any, of these proposals—but I would like to see what would happen were they implemented. Regrettably, there is no way to test these ideas, to measure their success and failure.
There are three broad themes subject to experimentation here: content, community, and policy. All depict a fundamentally different environment from Wikipedia today. Some are centered around strengthening the concept of an encyclopedia; others focus on culling the userbase. They are each developed independently, though certain cases could possibly be realized in tandem. Some implementations are more complex than others, but the essays generally do not concern themselves about the logistics of implementing anything.
Each essay outlines the potential motives, benefits, disadvantages, and conflicts associated with an idea. Except for /silent, questions and comments are invited on the respective talk pages. As always, thank you for reading. Walls of text are not usually Nice Things™.
