Konekt is a content management and publishing service (called "social publishing" by the website) that launched in open beta on January 9, 2012.[1] It was created by OmniCentra Media Inc., which had initially launched the concept as a Canadian inter-university magazine of the same name, first published in September 2009.[2]

History[edit]

Konekt was founded by Queen's University alumni Jeffrey Howard and Neil Martin in the summer of 2009. The project was launched using original student content and distributed to students at Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, and the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. The project was financed through advertising from local businesses, fundraising and grants. Konekt debuted with issue #1 in September 2009, releasing 20,000 copies for free to the three campuses in Kingston.[3] Issues #2 and #3 were released in January 2010 and September 2010, respectively.

In 2011, the service transitioned to an online format, creating the website konekt.ca as a collective blog, where previous contributors or new users could contribute articles or showcase artwork.[4]

On January 9, 2012, Konekt revealed it's re-designed content management system and publishing service in open beta.
