Konekt is a Canadian inter-university magazine, published twice per year, with a circulation of 25,000. The magazine's content is a collection of creative student work from a wide range of fields and faculties, including global issues, the arts, science, technology, business, culture and society. Konekt's stated mission is to "engage Canada's future leaders and promote the sharing of original ideas," and each issue displays the tagline "Inspiration For An Enlightened Generation" as an indicator of this goal. The magazine's content is almost exclusively written and provided by current students drawn from the institutions at which the magazine is released. The magazine is primarily released for free on campus.[1]

The latest release of Konekt Issue #3 in September 2010 reaches six major Canadian university campuses, including Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Queen's University, University of Waterloo, Wilfred Laurier University and University of Western Ontario.[2]

History[edit]

Konekt Magazine was founded by Queen's University alumni Jeffrey Howard and Neil Martin in the summer of 2009. The two began the project with the help of a small grant and set out to "bridge the gap" between the academic communities and student bodies of Queen's University, St. Lawrence College, and the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. Howard and Martin recruited fellow Queen's student Matthew Lombardi as the first Editor-in-Chief of the publication and reached out to local businesses for advertising and fundraising for the project. Konekt debuted with issue #1 in September 2009, releasing 20,000 copies for free to the three campuses in Kingston.[3] Konekt has since released issue #2 in January 2010 followed by issue #3 in September 2010.
