User:Filll/Peaceful Polling Pledge/Reasons not to explain

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are many reasons participants in RfAs and similar polls might not want to explain their "votes", including:

  1. a vote based on privileged or private information
  2. to avoid embarassing the candidate or others
  3. desire not to sway others
  4. to avoid ridicule by those who might disagree with the reason
  5. to avoid creating bad feelings and ill will
  6. lack of interest in debating for a variety of reasons, including time requirements and disinterest in arguing or repeating oneself
  7. wanting to reduce the chance of being subject to threats or other intimidation tactics, and reduce the motivation of others to seek vengeance later for an "incorrect" vote.
  8. the vote is being cast based on the influence of some other voter, and revealing this information might cause the voter to be ridiculed, or lead to charges of cabalism.
