Syed Hasnain Raza is a Pakistani media educator, environmental journalist, and filmmaker known for his contributions to environmental conservation through media. He holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts From Foundation University Islamabad>, a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, and an MSc in Creative Multimedia from Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia. His educational background has provided a strong foundation for his career in both the media industry and academia. Syed grew up in Pakistan and after completing his early education he opted for his professional degree. He traveled almost to all parts of Pakistan as kid due to the job nature of his father, who was a government officer.

[edit]For the past seven years, Raza has taught a variety of subjects related to media studies, filmmaking, and environmental journalism at several universities, including The Millennium Universal College (TMUC), Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), and Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU). He is also an educator certified in teaching Global Perspectives at AS and A2 levels for the Cambridge curriculum. Syed is also a Certified National Geographic Educator, and he was selected in year 2020 to design new courses for Natgeo Educator Program.
Filmmaking and Environmental Journalism
[edit]Raza has extensive experience in the media industry, with a career spanning over 11 years. He has worked on various projects across Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, and Pakistan for international organizations like WWF, NatGeo, Terramater, and Smithsonian, among others. His work often focuses on environmental conservation, wildlife protection, and climate justice. Syed was Part of The Walk About Films Nature Documentaries filmed, in collaboration with the Dawood Foundation in 2014
One of his notable films, The Sun Bear Project, was officially selected for the 2019 Wildlife Conservation Film Festival (WCFF) in Hollywood, California, and the SOFA Film Festival. This film was a result of his MSc research and was created in collaboration with Find Focus Films, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC), and Multimedia University (MMU) Malaysia. Besides Syed has collaborated with KLEFF, TCS Malaysia, ADEX Singapore, and Pentlab.
In 2023, Raza collaborated with Terramater Studios and Four Motion Films on the film Dethroned, further cementing his reputation as a filmmaker dedicated to environmental causes.
Initiatives and Contributions
[edit]Raza in 2016 founded Find Focus Films to create awareness through YouTube Films.Syed Raza is also the founder of the Media Project on Conservation Environment and Nature (MPCEN), an initiative aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues through media, it was founded in 2017. He is also the founder of the Pakistan Wildlife and Eco Film Festival (PIWEFF)[1], which showcases films focusing on wildlife and ecological conservation in Pakistan. He recently founded "The Climate Bulletin" a web blog service on climate change and environmental issues.
Fellowships and Collaborations
[edit]Throughout his career, Raza has been involved in several international fellowships, including the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), the Global Media and Information Literacy (GNMI) Sabz Journalism Fellowship, and the Media Matters for Democracy (MMFD) Media Entrepreneur Fellowship[2]. These experiences have enhanced his expertise in environmental journalism and filmmaking.Syed is also a fellow of ISCM, Intenational School on Climate Mobility[3] in collaboration with UN IOM.
