The Singles Chart is a weekly record chart based on single sales from Sunday to Saturday. During the 1960s, a total of 75 singles reached number one. The most successful artist of the 1960s was the English band The Beatles, who topped the Singles Chart for 127 weeks with nineteen different singles. "Unchained Melody" by the American duo The Righteous Brothers, released in 1965, was the biggest-selling single of its year and the biggest-selling single of the decade. The first number-one single of the 1960s was "Oh! Carol" by American singer Neil Sedaka – released in 1959, first reached number one during the last week of December, and remained at the top for eight consecutive weeks. The final number one of the decade was the double A-side single "Fortunate Son" / "Down on the Corner" by the American band Creedence Clearwater Revival.
