Early Life

Vera Wang was born in New York, NY and she is a first generation American. Her parents immigrated from China and raised her in Manhattan, Ny. Early in her life she attended Chapin School, then moved on to the University of Paris, and she received an art history degree at Sarah Lawrence College. Wang also spent her teen years figure skating professionally.

Career

Vera Wang first kick started her career in fashion when she was hired as Vogue’s youngest fashion editor in 1972, and she stayed there for 17 years. Following this, she became the director of design at Ralph Lauren. After designing her own bridal dress, she dropped a bridal and evening wear collection that was well sought after by celebrities and socialites. Wang spent some time dressing many celebrities through her years such as, Victoria Beckham, Michelle Obama, Ariana Granda, and Kim Kardashian. While she made a large name in the world of fashion, she also dropped a fragrance line in 2001 and expanded beyond this with jewelry, and houseware. Vera designed costumes for Olympic figure skaters throughout the years. Her latest work was her 30th bridal collection in 2020 that premiered in New York Fashion week.

• Ranked the 34th richest self-made women in the world in 2018
• Designed many red carpet dresses for varying celebrities.
• Wang released a successful book in 2001 titled,"Vera Wang on Weddings"
