Bio

[edit]

About me:

[edit]

I am an artist who lives in the Pacific Northwest. I draw mostly everyday items, but occasionally I will draw whatever comes to mind and what I feel in the moment. I play an instrument known as the trumpet. It is a lovely instrument that can be difficult to master if you have a hard time controlling your wind pressure. Other things about me: I love to read manga, I take interest in Computer Sciences, and I have an eye for fashion.

My Wikipedia activities:

[edit]

I don't really use Wikipedia all that much but now that I have started to, I would use this as an opportunity to research my special interests such as art, music, movies, video games, and fashion. As a kid I loved the idea of creating things I found interesting, in my own unique way. "There are so many amazing and diverse types of art, but they can generally be categorized into one of seven categories." [1] With using Wikipedia, I think that I might have a broader scope of finding out how these art forms work. And if I happen to come across something outdated of wrong, I would like to put my input in and change and fact check things.

Article Evaluation

[edit]

When I chose the topic of Mark Nelson, I originally wanted to talk about a video game Re-Reckoning, but the Wikipedia page was too long to work with, so I went with a person who worked on it: Mark Nelson. I didn't know much about this person other than him being a video game designer, but knowing this I was able to evaluate the article better. There was a lot of facts about his career, which I found interesting but as I was reading this Wikipedia article, I found three aspects worth commenting on: the reliability of the sources used, links not being up to date/dead, and what was left out of the article that should've been there.

Reliability

[edit]

When reading through Mark Nelsons Wikipedia page, I noticed the incredible number of links and citations used after a fact or comment was stated. I began wondering if each of these was up to date or reliable enough to be in this article, and when checking some of the links and sites, they took me to pages that weren't know widely, and information was all over the place. Some information gathered from these sources didn't have anything to back up these claims stated.

[edit]

There were plenty of links at the bottom of the Wikipedia page, but not all of them were up to date. As I was checking the links from credibility, I also came across some of them not working or just not there. As an example, when I checked a certain link it brought me to the page, but in big font it said, "this page no longer exists". With that in mind, I started thinking that even though with all these links, I could tell that most of them weren't the best for references. It was a small article, but it had so many sources, links and citations.

Missing Information

[edit]

This article was great in many ways, it had a lot of information on Mark Nelson and his career, but that's all it had. On the top of the Wikipedia page, it says 'Mark Nelsons biography', and a biography tell you about one's life, which is what this article lacked. It went on and on about his career and achievements, but it didn't have mention anything about his personal life like, where he was born, how old he was, when his birthday is, what his favorite hobbies are. Those are the questions I wanted answers for. I would have liked to know more personal details so I could relate to him more.

Conclusion

[edit]

Overall, I would rate this page 5/10. Its lack of information was the major key point in my rating. This article would have been rated higher if it wasn't a biography, but it was. This page definitely leaves a lot to be desired, it lacks substantial material and doesn't cover everything it should've. It definitely needed to cover his more personal life along with making sure the sources they used where up to date.
