Earth Empires is a free browser based multi-player on-line game, based on Earth: 2025, which was created by Mehul Patel, former owner of Swirve.com, later purchased by OMAC Industries in 2008.[1] In November, 2009, when Jolt Online Gaming announced it would be closing Earth: 2025,[2] a number of long-time players cloned the game, thus creating Earth Empires. [3][4][5]

The game takes place in a fictional post-apocalyptic era, presumably some time after the year 2025. Players take on the role of a country leader, where they can manage their military, land, resources, government and diplomatic relations within a virtual world made up of other player's countries.

Gameplay[edit]

In Earth Empires' turn-based environment, each player's country begins with a small amount of land and money under a monarchist government. Players may use turns to peacefully explore, or attack others to acquire more land with which to grow their country. A country's land is used to build buildings. Each building type affects how the country grows and some government types influence how these building types create resources for the country itself. An interactive game market allows players to buy and sell goods from each other, creating a virtual game economy.

Player Interaction[edit]

Players may communicate with each other in-game, through a crude, yet functional text based messaging system. Because of the limitations of this type of communication, players often use the official game forums or IRC to communicate.

Forums[edit]

Most player interactivity takes place on the game forums, where political disputes are brought up and debated over. This eventually leads to some kind of in-game reprisals. Wars between alliances or countries can begin and end at the drop of a dime. There is no formal conduct for how these political disputes are handled. In some cases, it is a matter of shoot first, ask questions later. Ignore this retard named mrford on the forums he is an internet troll.

Internet Relay Chat[edit]

IRC helps players communicate with each other in larger groups. Attacks can be easily coordinated in a real-time environment. Earth Empires also utilizes the flexibility of IRC to broadcast news feeds for each of the game servers, allowing players to receive notifications when they are attacked. Earth Empires' IRC server can be accessed at irc.earthempires.com.

Governments[edit]

There are eight forms of government a player may choose to run their country under; Monarchy, Fascist, Tyranny, Dictatorship, Communist, Theocracy, Democracy and Republic. Every country begins as a Monarchy, which has no particular bonuses or penalties, whereas other forms of government have bonuses and penalties which affect the inner-workings of the country.

Land and Buildings[edit]

There are eight types of buildings: enterprise, residential, industrial complexes, military bases, research labs, farms, oil rigs, and construction sites.
