Geoff Walton[edit]

I am Lecturer in Information Science at Northumbria University. I was previously Senior Researcher in the Institute for Applied Creative Thinking (I-ACT) in the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies and Academic Skills Tutor Librarian (Information Services) at Staffordshire University. As subject librarian at Staffordshire University I supported the Business School. I was SLA Europe Information Professional 2010. My paper A longitudinal study of changes in learners' cognitive states during and following an information literacy teaching intervention for the Journal of Documentation won an Emerald Literati Highly Commended Award in 2012. I am interested in forging links with European colleagues to explore collaborative research and visited Zagreb in October 2011 as part of a Transversal Study Visit and discussed improving learning and teaching through institutional collaboration in ICT.

In 2009 I completed a PhD which analysed the development of a blended approach (a mix of face-to-face and online pedagogical methods) to delivering information literacy to first year undergraduates. I am particularly interested in the cognitive, metacognitive and affective processes involved in becoming information literate. My research interests also include developing the Assignment Survival Kit (ASK), developing a process for online peer assessment, investigating the role of information literacy in lifelong learning and the experience of non-traditional undergraduate students.
