Quehanna

[edit]

Thanks - I have not worked on the lead except for the first sentence - will work on that last. The first three sections of history are done, and the rest is in decent shape thanks to AuntieRuth55, though I have a fair amount to add there and some reorganization. Also have to work on Geology and make an Ecology section. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:10, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

I semi-protected it for a week and am watching it now too. Thanks for the heads up. Did you see the proposed blurb for Quehanna? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
I like the Wife selling article too, I think one of my problems with it is that I've read The Mayor of Casterbridge, in which it plays a major role, so I knew it was real from the start. I just wish that Raul would announce his decision sooner rather than later - if it is not going to be the April Fools WP:TFA (at least this year ;-) ) then I will not break my back trying to get it to FAC so soon. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:53, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey there, I note that you put 'oppose on this FAC until the alt text is fixed in the images. Would you be able to check on this now to see if it meets with your approval? Thanks a ton! H1nkles citius altius fortius 17:13, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Galen Hall

[edit]

Dincher, I would be glad to help promote the Galen Hall article to Class "B" and then Good Article status. I've got plenty of references for his time in Gainesville, but what I could really use are some good reference materials for Galen's time as PSU quarterback, Oklahoma OC, his arena football coaching and his time back in State College as OC for JoePa. Best source is probably Google News Archive. If you want to see examples of what I like to do for coach bios, have a look-see at Doug Dickey and Bob Woodruff. Both are still works in progress. Even better, look at the non-coach GAs that I've written for Andrew Sledd, Albert A. Murphree and John J. Tigert. Drop me a wiki e-mail from my user page and we can trade ideas further off-screen. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:24, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Dincher, nice pic of Galen. You can email me by clicking on the email option under the lefthand "Tool box" inset on my talk page. Once we trade an email, we can talk in the clear. I don't like to post my email on the talk pages for obvious reasons. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 19:40, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Quehanna Wild Area

[edit]
<font=3> Thanks again for your encouragement from the start, kind words, and support. Quehanna Wild Area is now a featured article! Auntieruth55 (talk) and Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:49, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the thanks for the thanks ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:08, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading the great Wykoff Run photos - I swapped out the one of Wykoff Run in the Quehanna Geology section for Nicholas T's nicer picture. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:47, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Ganoga and parks

[edit]
Ricketts Glan State Park map

I went ahead and put Ganoga Lake up for peer review. Might work on a covered bridge. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:02, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Glad you are finding something to do. I feel stupid - there used to be a big PDF history of the restoration of Knapps Covered Bridge online, which would have been great for getting that to FA, but now I cannot find it. They officially announced that Lairdsville Covered Bridge will get an $800,000 restoration next summer. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:09, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I looked pretty far down the Google search queue and did not find it. What park? Hyner View? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:14, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Ricketts Glen would be OK too - whichever you prefer. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:50, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
OK, I am working on the full RG map. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:21, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
If you want to try for a DYK, then user space. If not, article space. If user space, I think it has to be a new page to properly merge the histories. What do you think about the map? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:44, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

(out) I like the name for the file. Glad you like the map - it is so detailed and big that it needs to be displayed at a pretty large size just to be legible. I can work on wikilinking it like the other map. I will add a Geology section next. I think the DYK could be that it was going to be a national park until WWII interfered, or do you have a better idea? Quehanna was not picked as an April Fool's DYK - two years in a row I've missed that. Sigh. Not sure why I busted my butt on that article... Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:15, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

The hook could probably mention the waterfalls (with a link there too):
I also expect to make an article on the 6 lakes within the park historically (Mud Pond, Lake Jean, Lake Rose, Lake Leigh, and the two ice dam lakes, one dry now and the the other Mountain Spring Lake), although the ice dam lakes are technically on Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission land now. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:49, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I am glad to get another GA and plan to submit the lake to FAC once its PR is done. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:12, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I did a copyedit on Pritzker Pavilion, but was not a co-nom at FAC. I thought File:Ricketts Glen State Park Old Growth.jpg would be good for the plants part of the Ecology section. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:49, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
The IBA is looking good. I cropped the bald eagle pic - what do you think? Thanks for the QI suggestion - will nominate it. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:29, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
The QI nom is in, fingers crossed. Have you seen this? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:36, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Yo no hable (habla?) Espanol. The walls are made of stone covered with pebbles - see here. SB Elliott has similar structures. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:10, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

(out) Not sure where my brain was - I was a co-nom on Jay Pritzker Pavilion - thanks again. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:46, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

The image did not make QI - overexposed. Oh well. Are you working on Bruce more tonight? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:45, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
The reviewer also thought it was rotated (easily fixable) and did not like the white car in the background. I tried a crop to get rid of the car, but then the image was too small to be QI. I think the cabin image from Black Mo would be QI. I will work on the pre-Bruce history (Robinson, turnpike, squatters, and the brothers Ricketts). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:12, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
I saw it - I think the person should make an article on cyber schools in PA if there is not already one. Do you want me to stitch the Fenway pano on Flickr for you? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:26, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Bruce questions

[edit]

I have some questions on pictures to use in Bruce at User talk:Dincher/Bruce, in case you hadn't seen it. ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:21, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

The Ghost Towns of North Mountain book has a fair amount on Ricketts various logging operations and a bit on the CPL. The best sources for the CPL would be the Thomas T. Taber logging railroad books. I also have a newspaper article from the Sun-Gazette on Ricketts (the ghost town) and how there are tours from the state park to the the ghost town. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:08, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Wiktionary

[edit]

You use this code [[wikt:overbrowse|overbrowsing]] which looks like this: overbrowsing Wikitionary has an entry for "overbrowsing" too, but the main one is at "overborwse", so I used that. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:29, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Glad to help - Ganoga is up to three supports, looking good. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:46, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Ganoga Lake

[edit]
<font=3> Thanks again for your review, kind words, and support. Ganoga Lake is now a featured article! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:18, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - I realized not long before the FAC closed that I had not made a new article for it, so I started Clemuel Ricketts Mansion and linked it from the lake, the waterfalls, and Colley Twp. Probably add it to the RGSP / Bruce article too, which I did not get much done on. Hope the vacation was enjoyable, and welcome back, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:23, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
Um, actually I have not yet nominated it. Was probably going to use the Ricketts Folly hook. Want to add a brief location section before History and a secion on the building itself after History. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:43, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
The nom is in - used the folly hook. I like sleeping on the floor, but it doesn't have a lot to do with the house. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:07, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - am trying to expand the Architecture section now. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:20, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
I added some pictures to Clemuel Ricketts Mansion - there are more on Commons and I need to upload some interior ones too. Do they look OK? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:39, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, do you think I should wait until I upload all my Ricketts Mansion pix before taking it to FAC? I was quite glad Stone House uploaded those pictures - now I just have to get on the ball on upload the rest of mine. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:50, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
I went ahead and nominated it at FAC. Will upload the rest of the pix I got inside in the next day or so. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

College Football Project request

[edit]

Hello! You are listed as an active member of the College Football Project! We have a large number of unreferenced biographies of living persons, but it works out to be just two or three articles per active participant. I've divided up the articles that need help and put them in a table on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football/Unreferenced BLPs. Please assist the project by researching and sourcing the articles that have been "assigned" (so to speak) to you.--Paul McDonald (talk) 02:47, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The BLP Barnstar
For your efforts in sourcing College Football BLPs (specifically Bobby Smith (running back) and John Mazur I award you the BLP Barnstar. Paul McDonald (talk) 17:26, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Nice pic!

[edit]

Nice new picture of Shawnee State Park (Pennsylvania)‎! Did you see Nicholas T has some new pix on Flickr? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:22, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Congrats on the new computer - I can upload them but will probably not get to it tonight. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:16, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
I still have not uploaded any of the images and am not likely to get to them tonight - sorry. Thanks for the peer review, will do the fixes tomorrow (can you tell I'm busy in real life right now?) Do you think it would be OK for FA or is it too short? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:56, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - it is much shorter than Joseph Priestley House, the only other house article I have worked much on, so I was not sure. Ganoga Lake is private and there is a gate on the road now. There are a couple more color photos on Flickr that I could ask for a free license on. I kind of like the black and white - I am nearly 100% sure the man in the infobox image is William Reynolds Ricketts - but would also love to see the house in person (and take some pix). Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:24, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the peer review - I will add several, but wondered if you thought Robert Bruce Ricketts II was worth mentioning in the article or not. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:17, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
RB Ricketts II is only in two sentences on page 69 of Petrillo's book. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:32, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - I added "several" and added an External link to the HABS page at the Library of Congress. Trying to think of someone who would be good to read the Architecture section. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:52, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - I asked him. I might ask Niagara too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:00, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks - I was surprised it was reviewed so quickly. I had thought it could wait in the GAN queue while I waitied to get more photos of the house. Plan to work on Bruce today. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:18, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Raccoon Creek State Park

[edit]

I just noticed this edit, which makes complete sense; it's literally the closest city, but Frankfort Springs is clearly the closest non-township municipality. Would it be appropriate for me to add one or the other to this parameter of the template with an atlas as my source? Nyttend (talk) 14:10, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

I should note — either one is far better than the "nearest city" given by the NRHP database for the CCC-built cabins; Rochester is much farther away than many other non-township municipalities. Nyttend (talk) 14:12, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for the help. Nyttend (talk) 15:16, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

RGSP / Bruce

[edit]

Thanks for working on the trails - if you have access to Google books, several of them are also listed in hiking books - see this. I am trying to figure out where (if) to include the oil drilling fraud near what is now Lake Rose (in the HABS report, 1865-66). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:07, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking of a paragraph at the end of the early inhabitants section, after the Ricketts brothers built the stone house in 1852. It was before RB Ricketts bought the land from his father, so it seems better to include it there. I had also thought of adding it to the Sickler and Dodson squatters making cherry bed frames paragraph, because the one well was at Dodson's dam. I do not think this works well though, as Dodson was gone by about 1860 and does not seem to have had anything to do with the oil well fraud. I will try adding it.
I also think the RB Ricketts and the lumber era section could be written differently than the usual lumber era histories. It seems pretty clear that: a) the stone house was used as a tavern / inn from day one and that RB Ricketts continued this, even adding the wooden "ark" hotel wing to make the North Mountain House hotel; b) RB Ricketts was also trying very hard for many years to get someone to help him cut lumber on as much of land as possible, the main drawback being a lack of access - no major creeks, no railroads. Petrillo's book goes into great detail on all the different deals RBR was involved in that fell through before he finally succeeded with Trexler and Turrell and established the town of Ricketts. I think it is safe to say RB Ricketts needed the hotel finacially before that; c) The town of Ricketts was founded in 1890, the railroad reached Ganoga Lake by 1893, at which point the mills were in full operation. Not long after the sawmills were in full swing, RB Ricketts starts scaling back his hotel operations - tore down the wooden ark in 1897, closed the hotel altogether in 1903. d) Ricketts was also looking for other ways to make money - ice business on Ganoga Lake (1895 to 1915 or so), the dams built to make Lakes Rose and Leigh and Jean for hydroelectric power (around 1905 to 1907). In the one New York Times story there is a great quote from the colonel himself that he used to be land poor (i.e. he owned a lot of land, but it brought him little income) but after the hydroelectric scheme failed he was "dam poor"; and finally e) the lumber business was a steady one until the trees ran out about 1913 or so, at which point the town of Ricketts became a ghost town. I also want to mention in the article that parts of Ricketts town were in what is now the park (newpaper article from the Sun-Gazette), and also mention the other lumber operations in the area - Phillips Creek and the eastern park were logged by other firms - as well as the other ice making operations (Mountain Springs Lake was Ice Dam No. 2 originally).
Does this sound OK? I am thinking things through here... Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:38, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
OK, I have to be careful as the refs mention RB Ricketts finacial difficulties, but do not directly say he gave up the hotel business once he got money from lumber. I think it can just be chronological and the reader can draw their own conclusions as to why he gave up the hotel biz (as I have above). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:39, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I have been rereading the Petrrillo book, and the HABS and the NRHP forms - the NRHP form says "Despite profits, Ricketts became disenchanted with the hotel business and closed his hotel in 1903." and {etrillo's book on page 3 says "Ricketts was on the verge of financial disaster for two decades until the Lehigh Valley Railroad was constructed through his lands.". Ruhrfisch ><>°° 22:09, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
The New York Times, May 9, 1954, pg. XX15, "Pennsylvania Primps for the Tourist" by Paul Trescott has this quote from Colonel Ricketts: After one dam collapsed, he observed: "I used to be land poor, but now I'm dam poor". Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:12, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I changed the format of the bullet lists in Bruce so that the page size script would count the bullet points in the Trails section. When we started the expansion it was at 11 kB, were at 28 kB just before this, and after the format change we are at 30 kB. DYK needs 5x expansion generally (to 55 kB), although if we get it over 4x (44 kB) and it is basically ready for FAC I am guessing we could get an WP:IAR exception from the DYK rule. Just wanted to let you know, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:01, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I think Geology is pretty much complete, but am open to suggestions. We could add more to Recreation (camping, winter activities), more on plants and non-bird animals, and a fair amount more to History. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:31, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
I will work on the lumber history some more tonight, but will only edit the History section. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:20, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Good, the Ganoga Lake article has refs on the fish in Lake Jean too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:37, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

The RGSP article is 11 kB, Bruce is up to 35 kB, or just over 3x expansion. I need to finish the History - want to find out something baout the Benton Air Force Station (a radar base from WWII) and add the Red Rock Job Corps too (what the base became). Plus there is still an FAA radar dome there, but I need a RS for these. Also can add the new office, the dam removals, Hurricane Floyd and its effects on the park. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:25, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I asked about the air force station here and will see if I can ask about the FAA radar at the Aviation WikiProject. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:43, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
FAA radar site asked about here, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:49, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
This is a blog but written by a former reporter who mentions an article s/he wrote on the Air Force station and FAA radar. Possible source? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:42, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking of emailing the blogger and asking for the specifics on the newspaper article s/he wrote, which would be a RS. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:52, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - that is a great sign and glad to see they now know about in the Spanish-speaking world. I found an article online from a RS on the air force / FAA radars - see here. Does not have the date, so I will see if I can find that. I also got the PCN video for the park - it has lots of useful information too. Have been having some computer issues and busy in real life too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:51, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading those - I think we can use the fire tower picture in the article at least. It looks like he was only on the trail to Grand View by those three pics (not any where near the waterfalls). I got the new Colonel Ricketts biography (2008) by Peter Tomasak too - has some good stuff, 424 pages plus index, lots of pictures. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:43, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!

[edit]

Thanks so much for your support on Free State of Galveston. --Mcorazao (talk) 18:12, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Radar and Red Rocks

[edit]

The new article looks good and I like the DYK hook. I tweaked the Bruce paragraph - we are up to 36 kB (need 55 kB, strictly speaking). I started an article on Ricketts, Pennsylvania but it is not yet big enough for DYK (or much beyond a stub). I think the Jobs Corps can probably be a short article too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:27, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Cool, good luck. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Why don't we try the Flickr EL when RGSP finally gets to FAC and see what the reaction is? I just found out where I can get a copy of the biography of Col. Ricketts! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:01, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
I hope to watch the RGSP PCN video tonight and add that material. Not sure if the book will have more on the park or not, but it looks quite detailed. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:07, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
The Black Mo video was quite good, though it had little not already in the article. The Hyner View / Little Pine video had very little on HV, alas (and was OK, but not great on LP). The RGSP video is pretty good - I have seen it once, but need to watch it and take notes. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:28, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
I can check them out at a library - had not even thought of looking for them online. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:12, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

(out) Bruce is up to 38 kB and needs to get to 55 kB for 5x expansion, 4.5x expansion is about 50 kB, which seems to be the level that might get through DYK with WP:IAR. I think expanding the lead to four full paragraphs could get 2 or 3 more kB, I should finsih expanding History this week and think I can get 3 or 4 kB more there, and can proably get the rest in Ecology and elsewhere, will email you too, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:25, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Osceola Mills

[edit]

Issue is fixed; it's just Clearfield. My source for so saying is this Census Bureau document. If you want to download it, you'll find it potentially useful: sort the "Name" column to get all instances of each municipality grouped together, and check the "County" column. The numbers in this column are the FIPS codes for the counties; you can find which is which simply by searching for a county name in the column, since of course its entry in the FIPS code column will be the FIPS code for the county. Clearfield County is 33, FYI. Nyttend (talk) 21:44, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

You're welcome. Sorry for the bad link; I meant FIPS county codes. Nyttend (talk) 01:35, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Natural Bridges State Beach

[edit]

Nice job - assuming you use the infobox picture in the now, how about

DYK ... that in addition to its stone arch (pictured), Natural Bridges State Beach in California is known for the up to 150,000 Monarch butterflies that overwinter there?

I added a ref after the 150,000 sentence to make it clearer for the DYK checkers. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:37, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I think I have uploaded all of the new Black Mo pix - 7 new ones - old school, new bridge, chipmunk, snake, new cabin, old cabins, and pitcher plants. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:30, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
I also liked those pics, but am not really sure where any new images could be added to the article. Good luck with the DYKs, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:56, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Buffalo Bill DYK hook ideas

[edit]

Nice article - I have two possible DYK ideas. The one is DYK... that Buffalo Bill Cody once owned part of Buffalo Bill State Park in Wyoming?

The other is the fact that the original park is now underwater, so something like DYK... that the original facilities for Buffalo Bill State Park in Wyoming have been underwater since the Buffalo Bill Dam was raised 25 feet (7.6 m) in 1983? SO far internet is working OK. Service call early next week. Argh. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:06, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Glad you liked that one - the dam part reminded me a bit of Little Pine SP - the original park there is the picnic area below the dam, and all the CCC-built stuff was washed away by Agnes in 1972 (only time the water ever went over the dam there). Good luck with the nom, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:23, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Good news on Buffalo Bill too. Harris Theater is kind of in limbo - one oppose with many objections, which we are in the second round of replying to. About half the objections were struck after the first round of our replies, just waiting for the second round to be looked at (for a couple of days now). So just waiting to see what else needs to be worked on some more. I have 7 or 8 pages of notes for Ricketts Glen and Ganoga Lake and the mansion from the video and new Col. Ricketts biography. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park

[edit]

Hello. Recalling the excellent work you did on the Mary Jane Thurston State Park and Van Buren State Park (Ohio) articles, I was wondering if you took requests? If so, I happened across the Grand Lake St. Marys State Park article today, and felt it was in desperate need of attention from a talented wordsmith like yourself. Regards, — Kralizec! DYK for Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park

Congrats again - you are on a roll! Ruhrfisch ><>°°

Thanks, Grand Lake St. Marys

[edit]

Thanks - it is a relief to be done with the FAC. If Grand Lake St. Marys was a copy and paste job and thus a copyvio, then I believe that exampts it from the DYK rule on 5x expansion - internet problems seem to be solved. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:15, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Kansas locator template

[edit]

I think I have fixed it now - the eastern border was off by about 3 degrees, which threw everything else off. Thanks for the heads up, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:50, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

That hook sounds OK, from a quick look at the article, what about something like DYK... that Lake Scott State Park is home to El Quartelejo Ruins, the northernmost Indian pueblo in the United States and the only one known in Kansas? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:06, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Glad you liked the tweaked hook - I have been trying to fix dead links and am stuck on Plunketts Creek (two dead Game Commission Press Releases and the Pneu Dart website has changed and no longer lists the number of employess). Did you see the 1875 woodcut of Ganoga Falls in Bruce? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:28, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Gull Point Observation Deck

[edit]

Hi.

I would ask that you restore my addition of the georeference for the Gull Point observation deck. The Gull Point trail is poorly marked, especially at a fork. Locating the observation deck can be a frustrating experience, easily relieved with a GPS waypoint. Of course, the deck is open to the public when the trail is open, so I am not providing information that would be prohibited. I have high confidence in the quality of the coordinates provided, as I obtained them myself via GPS last fall.

Thanks,

I am not sure the coordinates are really needed, either. Wikipedia is not a travel guide. The observation platform is clearly marked on the map for the park. Niagara Don't give up the ship 15:42, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

The platform is clearly marked, but the trail isn't. Try it sometime. The park map lacks any georeferences besides an arrow pointing north.

By the way, public places like Presque Isle only exist today because they are travel destinations. Anyone searching the web for a place like Gull Point is probably expecting to go there.

Whatever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.48.107.143 (talkcontribs) 16:00, June 20, 2010

Although the observation platform is shown on the official park map, it is not listed on the official park website that I can find, nor is it in the Wikipedia article currently. I also note that there is only one set of coordinates in the article, the USGS GNIS coordinates for the park. I think it would be better to contact the park office and ask that they improve the signage / trail blazes. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:52, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
This has been moved to Talk:Presque Isle State Park - sorry not to have moved it there before. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:35, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Ganoga Lake review

[edit]

I got Tomasak's fairly new Biography of Colonel R. Bruce Ricketts and as a result have added about 5 kB to the Ganoga Lake article - diff. I am asking the FAC and PR reviewers to please take a second look at the Ganoga Lake article and make sure it still reads smoothly and clearly. If you find problems, please raise them on the article's talk page. Thanks in advance, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:35, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
