Deleting articles

[edit]
  • Try and mention the specific guideline you are using e.g. WP:COMPOSER for non-notable musical compser.
  • Speedy delete only if the delete is 100% not controversial.
  • The guidelines are never clear enough and there are lots of unwritten rules that surprise you. I find from experience that the following are always considered notable -
    • All schools and colleges
    • All places
    • All athletes (pro leagues, first-class cricket etc.)
    • Authors and film directors (unless self-published)

  • Not exactly correct. For athletes, refer to WP:ATHLETE. For places, WP:NGEO. For schools/colleges, secondary school and above unless otherwise notable. Cheers, Ansh666 03:52, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the correction. I myself find these things confusing and counter-intuitive. Thanks, Anand (talk page) 06:12, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Anand QED

I did not know that schools and places and athletes are reliable sources. I thought that news, and gov sites, etc are only notable.

I did not know it either till recently. Wikipedia is a strange place where consensus is built over time.
I added whatever suggestions I could think of. Teahouse is where you will find experts. Poke around Wikipedia and find your way around.

I did not read your earlier statement carefully. I meant to say that schools, places and athletes are notable topics on which an article may be written - not sources. Sources and references for an article will still be news sites etc. Thanks, Anand (talk page) 06:10, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Finally, I took what I put in here and added a lot more stuff - see Editing, fixing and defending Wikipedia. I don't expect you to read all of it and you already know a lot, but you may find a useful link in there. Thanks, Anand (talk page) 19:20, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
