Idiomysis is a genus of small mysids found in warm, shallow waters of Indian Ocean (including Red Sea) and [[Pacific][2].
Anatomy[edit]
Mysids from the genus Idiomysis are just few millimeters length; their cephalothorax is gibbous and robust whereas the abdomen is characteristically curled up behind[1][3]. When compared with other mysids, Idiomysis has short antennae, relatively big eyes and small, usually unarmed telson[1], however a single species, I. diadema possess to short terminal spines[3].

There are six species described so far in the genus[2]:

- Idiomysis japonica Murano, 1978
- Idiomysis mozambica Deprez, Wooldridge & Mees, 2001
- Idiomysis robusta Connell, 2008
- Idiomysis tsurnamali Bacescu, 1973.
Ecology[edit]
Idiomysis live in smal groups (called swarm) of 5 to more then 40 individuals
Skorupiaki z rodzaju Idiomysis pływają w niewielkich grupach (5 do >40 osobników) ponad dnem morskim w płytkich przybrzeżnych ekosystemach (głównie rafy koralowe)[4], potrafią również żerować na dnie. Dwa gatunki – I. inermis i I. tsurnamali – są znane z wchodzenia w fakultatywne relacje symbiotyczne z ukwiałami[4], natomiast I. diadema pływa pomiędzy kolcami jeżowców z rodzaju Diadema[3]. Jest to najprawdopodobniej przykład komensalizmu, w którym skorupiaki otrzymują ochronę lub pożywienie[4]. Znane są również przypadki współwystępowania Idiomysis z wodorostami[1], strzykwami i odwróconymi meduzami z rodzaju Cassiopea[4].
Występowanie[edit]
Opisane dotąd gatunki występują w Oceanie Indyjskim u wybrzeży Indii, Mozambiku i RPA, w Morzu Czerwonym, w Morzu Wschodniochińskim, oraz u wschodnich wybrzeży Australii[2].
