User:GregKaye/List of Johns whose Britannica article titles contain broad description

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of people called John who have had articles about them written in the Encyclopaedia Britannica and whose articles have been given titles (in an apparent main and subtitle system) that, following the name and titles of the individual, give indication of more than one area of the person's involvement.

The listing, at time of article creation, contains reference to 120 people called John. The list was complied with reference to results of a search accessed by web address: "http://www.britannica.com/search?query=john". 181 results pages (and 1810 results) were scanned with an estimation of 1530 of those articles containing biographic content on people with the given name "John".

The web links provided below are again connected to the Britannica search utility. For instance, the web address used for the first item on the list is: "http://www.britannica.com/search?query=John+king+Denmark+Norway+Sweden". The displayed text "John (king of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden)" is the displayed text of the relevant item of the list. Conveniently this is displayed in a style familiar to Wikipedia users so as to display normal text but with some of that text appearing in parenthesis.

Comment can be made on one facility within the Britannica search listing system that some editors may find interesting. When the persons name is presented in the following text, the last name is presented first. This is useful in cases in which individuals either have displayed middle names of double barrelled surnames and, in such cases, this text has been left in the article below.

When on one of the Britannica search page listings (as accessed via the links below) clicking on the relevant Britannica search page listing will link to the actual article. In connection to the example mentioned above, the text "John" appears as article title and the text "king of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden" appears as, in effect, a subtitle.

The list was compiled so as to provide reference to extents of description provided in title contents of another encyclopaedia.
