From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Faunawatch is an independent and non-profit organisation based in Meerssen, the Netherlands. The organisation devotes itself to the well-being and protection of animals, both locally and internationally.

History[edit]

Faunawatch was established in 2012 under the name Save the Earth. At the time of its creation, its current founding members, the brothers Tim and Ivi Huijsmans, were 12 and 13 years old. The original mission is a commitment to animal welfare and the protection of animals through activities, education and promotions. In 2015, Tim and Ivi were named world improvers of the year by ... . In 2016 the organization continued its work under the name Faunawatch.[1]

Faunawatch wants, among other things, to protect the most endangered primate in the world, the Cross River gorilla. In addition, the organization aims to halt the whale hunt on the Faroe Islands. Moreover, in addition to a successful bee protection project in the Netherlands (more information on this!) and the beekeeping project in Ghana (more information on this!), Faunawatch also wants to start a bee project in Cameroon - did it start? How up-to-date is this info?

Honors and Awards[edit]

Considering their environmental efforts in Africa and the Netherlands [2], in 2015, the Huijsmans siblings were proclaimed Wereldverbeteraars van het Jaar (Dutch for Do-Gooders of the Year) by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs [3][4]

Were there more honors and awards? (ek)
