Karlsruhe, Germany.
Affiliation: Universität Karlsruhe (TH) / KIT, Plazi
Fields of interest: Computer Science, Text Mining, Semantic Document Markup, Biodiversity Informatics.

I intend to contribute descriptions of organisms, which Plazi hosts on its servers, to the general public by means of converting them into Wikipedia pages. Some first examples are the following pages:

The text used in the articles stems from scientific publications (the references), which are so far the only sources describing these organisms. As pure descriptions of nature, these pieces of text do not qualify as intellectual property and therefore are not copyrightable. The copyright notice in the referenced pages clearly states this.

The purpose of the texts being replicated in Wikipedia is to

  • make them available to a wider audience
  • have them embedded in Wikipedia's greater network of the knowledge of mankind

Therefore, please allow the articles to stay online even though the texts are replicated from another source.
